Does this look normal? It seems like the covering is cut in half?

I think many people (including myself) will slit this boot when replacing the dreaded intermediate steering shaft. If you have a binding type feeling when steering, it's most likely that steering shaft. The grease dries up in it and binds like heck. I've replaced several of them over the years in different Auroras. I think I remember wrapping Duct Tape around the boot when putting back together. Bad original design from GM. Huh, imagine that!

Huh, imagine that! there is a TSB im pretty sure related to greasing them but yeah what you said. the column or shaft was prob replaced. boot is annoying. you could use epoxy and reseat it even if you want.

yep because of greasing or replacing the intermediate steering shaft. if it wasn't not replaced i would recommend replacing with the new design since eventually it be worse and worse. Replaced them on all auroras i owned like clock work . Common issue.
