I appreciate all of your dedication to this car. I've been using you for years, so I thought I'd give back.
I use an 01 4.0 as a beater, and I've always loved this car. However, it has had engine mount issues for years. Unfortunately, for it, I knew not launching hard from a stop or shifting with it idled up would allow for no bump. I didn't care about the extra vibration.
A couple of weeks ago, I put the car on ramps to change the radiator hoses, and it hit hard when I later shifted to back off the ramps. It was time for the repair, and I combed through this forum for all my information.
FRONT
I went GM Original off of Amazon, and this one failed immediately, but I didn't know it until I got everything else got. This process wasn't horrible, and I'll be doing it again pretty soon,
The information on this site is pretty good. My biggest issue was getting through the fear of dropping the cradle, the fear of pulling ac lines pretty hard, and those top two bolts on the bracket.
Also, BE VERY CAREFUL not to destroy the oil pressure sensor sitting behind the passenger side of the bracket. It's not dirt cheap. Ask me how I know? That bracket/mount combo is a pain to work out the bottom.
One last bit of advice spread the load across the unibody. Mines is all messed up from not heading this advice over the years.
RIGHT...PASSENGER
After the front not fixing the thump, I started looking around at the other mounts. While looking down the pullies, I see a sheered bolt laying on the lower control arm. After pulling the wheel and inner fender, I find out this is one of the engine mount bracket to engine bolts. It had broken off.
Also, two of the other bracket bolts were loose. I went to remove the bracket in order to drill a whole in the broken bolt, but one of the bolts seems to hit a portion of the transmission, so I came to the conclusion the bracket won't come out with the motor in the car. Luckily, i was able to push the bracket to the side enough to get access to the hole. EZ out did its job.
The mount was fine.
DRIVE SIDE
Fine.
REAR
I wish I had gotten my wife's boyfriend to do this one for me. It is not real fun, but it isn't horrible either.
You want to have ratcheting end wrenches, tilting headed ratchets, etc for this job. Otherwise, I think you'll need to remove the sway bar (?). I was in a shop with every tool but a lift, so I didn't remove the bar.
Effectively, drop the subframe about opposite of the front mount instructions found in numerous posts, support the engine, and jack the tranny. It'll come out. I went in kind of from the passenger side.
