Where is the VSS on the 2G 4T80E? Can I get it without dropping the trans?

Is there a bracket that has to be removed to get to the VSS?

Is there a bracket that has to be removed to get to the VSS? what do you mean? Open up your wheel well on the passenger side. find your differential housing extension (it bolts onto the case and is the pointy part of the trans) and youll find it on top of the thing somewhere near the passenger unibody frame rail , probably inline or near by the rear corner of the subframe.

I did that. But there seems to be a bracket blocking access to the sensor. The 2001 FSM indicates the VSS position as you say, but there's that bracket.

In this thread, aurorah.proboards.com/thread/2871 hollywooddippa says that on a Classic, a bracket had to be removed to get to the VSS. I was wondering if it's the same on the 2G.

I got the right front tire off & looked for the VSS. It wasn't in the location indicated. What am I missing?

I found it. It was where the FSM said it would be. I was looking in the wrong place. But there's a bracket between the engine & the trans that has to be removed to get to the VSS. The FSM didn't mention that.

I just changed mine a couple of weekends ago and didn't have to remove anything but the sensor. It's a tight fit but it didn't take long to do it.
