it smells like... Aurora As I finished up soldering together the serial wires under the drivers seat to fix my issue with only the driver's door/windows working, I noticed these wires going into the rear left door damaged with one having completely melted off it's insulation I confirmed the wire on the other side of the door connector was fine so I started tracing back though the wiring harness on the floor towards the back seat and realized 2 wires had melted, a black white stripe ground wire plus a grey with white stripe which I believe is a courtesy lighting signal wire (this is the one fully melted going into the door) Going further back I found this mess at this connector at the rear driver side And then as I was working to remove the black plastic harness cover that goes across the car under the back seat I realized there was a giant melted hole in it by the battery and underneath a melted mass of wires. I was able to pull them apart to see the damage What a mess! Any clues how this could have possibly happened? I've never noticed any burning smells in the car so I have to assume this happened prior to my ownership. Also no discoloration under the back seat. Also anyone know what this wire is which seems to have blue foil shielding inside it

OUCH!!!, good Troubleshooting... In theory it's an easy fix, just disappointing to discover just as you were ready to put the interior back together after fixing the sunroof drains and fixing the door lock/window serial connector.

I did find a number of cigarette butts in the back, I wonder if the previous owner could have been driving with the bench removed and accidentally flicked a cigf that came back into the car and melted that hole. Regardless I think whatever melted it shorted the orange power wire to a much thinner ground wire which cause it to burn its insulation off.
The joys of an auction car lol

Repaired all of the wires (used a full 25ft spool of wire!) and the only thing that has improved is the 3rd brake light is now fully illuminated instead of just the right half. I did realize that my interior lights rear of the dashboard don't turn on when it turn the switch to ON (vs Door or Off) all wires leading to, and leading from each light reads as 12v when grounded so I think the Rear Integration Module is not grounding out the circuit as it should. I will remove the rear seat back and do a visual inspection this week.
Edit: I also need to determine if the light sensor disables the interior lights in daylight only in auto setting or also in ON.
