I have replaced my stock headlight with a full HELLA H.I.D. Kit, which consist of a 2 German made HELLA Ballast and 2 9006 HID bulbs, with all the wiring. I have also replaced the front turn signals with Sylvania Silverstars 3157's to give it a nice crisp look, without that orange color. Here is picture of the HELLA HID kit that I have. Notice no blue bulbs.

You can get a seperate HID kit for the highs 9005, I know this dude that has HID's on the low & highs, even in his rear lights for reverse. This is the HID kit turned on.

This is the HID kit turned on. Makes the foglamps look yellow - can you get a kit for those? I'm not sure what the bulb is in foglamps.

One more thing don't settle for those MADE IN CHINA or MADE IN TAIWAN, the real ones are made in GERMANY like "Philips" which makes "HELLA", these are the brands found in many BMW's, Mercedes, Lexus and Infinti's.

I'm curious to know how the ballast fit on the driver side, everything in there is pretty tight. I looked at this option and it seemed very difficult. A few friends have done the HID conversion in the 6th gen Accord coupe (much more room) and the ballast is quite large.
How does the whole thing mount up?

The ballast actually fitted in there with no problems, there was still room in there. Here is a picture of what it came out to, ballast is located in the lower right hand side.. I just did not like that the ballast was going to be there unprotected that's why I began to look for the Ballast Covers, so I protected them with this, see picture below.

That's a great idea. How long does it take to get them up to temp?

See here is the interesting part,
After you installed and made the connections, when you start them up the first several or 5 seconds the HID kit lights up a violet/purpleish color then it warms up to a bright white light, that's every time you turn on the lights, it's really a cool effect, you got to see it in person.
The HID bulbs turn on in less than a second, I read that in some article about HID lighting, plus in severe rain, snow and foggy weather the Xenon light cuts through better allowing you better visibility on the road.

Yes, thats why its now a common feature on most high end imported (and now some domestic cars).
Intesting spot for the ballast, what happens when you have to service the air filter? Is it easy to take it down. Since I will be installing the RSM intake, do you feel the mounting will be a lot different. I hope to make some more room once the stock box is out.

The spot for the Ballast is fine, I actually pulled it out a bit to show it to you guys, but there is still more room in there. AS for the air filter, you can just go around it, it does not get in the way.

I have to wonder if the set-up and installation would be comparable on a 2001 Aurora. I love HID headlights, and wish the Aurora had come from the factory with them. Is there any way to use the units out of a Cadillac Seville (same body, same projector headlights)? I was thinking maybe they would cost less...

You can use your stock projectors and install a 9006 HID kit in there, that will work. 2. If you can find a 2001 Cadillac Seville or STS HID projectors and retro fit them in the stock 2001 Aurora projectors, you should be okay there too. Also lok on ebay, I've seen the Cadillac STS or Sevilles projector light housing's there. Let me know how you tackle this project. Javi.

I really don't think you want to go with a 12000K HID kit, it would not look proper out in the streets, maybe for a carshow or something like that.
But for every day use, your better of with a 6000K or 5000K.

yeah, 5000k and 6000k are the brightest, you see, the higher the number on the k scale, the more colorful the bulbs gonna be, but it'll give off less light, so, if you want some really bright lights, go with a lower k number, i made a compromise and got the 8000k.

I work at night half the time, so yeah I used it. But let's not forget that studies have found that HID lighting is more relax for the human eyes while driving, less fatigue, and it keeps you more alert in a way.
So there are benefits to an HID light kit in your car.
