I bought my '97 with Bose with 36k miles on it 4-1/2 years ago. The CD player would not spin the discs at that point. It was replaced under warranty. Now with 125k miles, it is shot again. Now the question. Is there a way of just replacing just the CD component of the unit? I've had it out, but is there somewhere I can get just that piece as a service part, hopefully for a reasonable price???
Thanks, Al

Don't trouble yourself. An Aurora head unit runs about $50 on ebay.

Plus, a direct replacement would probably be 10x easier that disassembling your current one to replace some electrical part. A question to anyone... would mal suffer any disadvantage by replacing the Bose head unit with a non-Bose? The only difference I know of is the EQ preset controls, but there might be more.

From what I have seen various places on the web, the Bose and non-Bose units are not swapable (at least not direct swap and go).
I had already disassembled my current unit to check out the CD component. It is a seperate component inside the main case. After pulling that out and messing with that, I still couldn't get it to spin the CD (same problem as the 1st unit).
I picked up a replacement on ebay today for $50. We'll see what kind of shape it's in. It is supposedly tested and ok, but you never know.

Most BOSE and non-BOSE head units are incompatible. This is because most BOSE head units are not amplified - the speakers are instead.
