Not to long ago my CD player in my 97 Aurora started to act funny. It would get very hot and the cd would start skipping. Sometimes it wouldnt even be able to read a cd and it would spit it right out. I was wondering if anyone knew why it is acting this way and if there is anything I can do to fix this?

yeah i have the same problem. it spits the disc out and the screen says err 31 and 30 sometimes 32. the disc comes out cookin' and i can barely touch it. i bought a 3m dry cleaning disc and that worked good, but once the car warms up it's screwed. radio works fine, not sure about the tape player, but yeah. i believe it is the non-bose unit. not even sure how to tell what it is. i might just get sirius satellite radio and forget the cd player all together

Yup same exact thing happens but when it spits out the hot cd is says err 20. Does anyone know what this means? I thinking about just replacing it with another factory cd player. Any suggestions? Also does the bose unit work with the non bose stereo system?

Also does the bose unit work with the non bose stereo system? No it doesn't. The bose radio needs an external amplifier to work which the non-bose has an internal amplifier. Also the bose head unit is wired completely different.

the disc comes out cookin' and i can barely touch it. You must have the limited Cook-As-U-Drive option... designed so you can fry an egg on your hot CD while en route to your destination. j/k Sounds like you both are gonna need a factory replacement, which I would suggest (as opposed to aftermarket) so all your electronics keep in good working order. You can find 'em on ebay, for decent prices. Here is an auction I found that starts at $75 and also lists all the Olds models with compatible non-Bose head units.

factory? No way, not me. I ordered a Pioneer Super Tuner deck with MP3/WMA. They say it will work with my car. also i got Rockford Fosgate Punch speakers sitting here and they wont get installed until february. Sorry but I can go without the steering wheel controls, even though it was a great option for 1995 at its time, id rather have better sound.

my 89 olds had steering wheel controls, heh. But yeah, if you're looking for another factory cd player that's not bose just private messege me, i could sell ya mine. I upgraded to a Pioneer P-9600MP deck so i won't be needing mine.

check this out, i was talking to a buddy who has a 97 camaro, he claims his in dash factory cd player has a little fan built into it and when he lets a cd play long enough, he can hear a little fan kick on and cool the unit down. very interesting...maybe i can utilize a small computer fan to keep the electronics cool...

My 2001 Sonoma has a fan on the CD player as well. I hear it run after about 10 minutes of CD use and it continues to run until the power is shut off to the head unit. I pulled my deck out yesterday just to see how easy it is to access, and it does get VERY hot! Also, it's real easy to get at and pull out. Which is a plus.
