I am interested in some suggestions for some "low profile" stereo upgrades, specifically regarding bass output and a possible sub/amp setup in the trunk. I cannot sacrifice my trunk space, plain and simple... so nothing installed can demand lots of space. I've got a huge sub box and amp rack in my '69 Pontiac's trunk, but that car is my cruiser that doesn't transport my wife and kids everywhere. I just want to add some moderately-priced *thump* to my daily driver. My stock system is the standard non-Bose six speaker setup. If I could find something *like* the integrated Bose sub-thingy (that could be wired into my system), that would probably be fine; I'm just not sure if anything like that exists aftermarket. Ideas?

Best thump for your buck, while maitaining a low profile....upgrade you stock speakers to Pioneer. A single 10" in the trunk will be just fine

Thanks for the suggestions thus far; I'm sure a stock speaker upgrade would be the best place to start. Supa, that Crutchfield link appears to be powered subwoofers for home theater systems... any idea what the market is for automotive versions? rodtice mentioned the Infinity Basslink line of products, which I'm sure are fabulous... but are a bit out of my price range, unfortunately.

I ordered my first deck from there, but i realized i could've bought it from Best Buy for about 50 bucks cheaper, although it was nice cause i got an install kit and instructions. But ebay is my place to shop for audio stuff now. Just search for what ya want on there

But ebay is my place to shop for audio stuff now. Just search for what ya want on there Believe me, I'm all over that. I buy more stuff from ebay (and save money on it, too) than most people can believe. Most consumers are so accustomed to buying retail and old-style mail order, that they overlook other great deals to be had online. But not me, I'm cheap.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner... But here is just what you need, Component Speakers... Which consist of a pair mid bass speaker and a pair of tweeters for highs. This would take care of your needs. Put an amp to a component set and it will sound great... Trust me... Remember you get what you pay for. So look to spend atleast 200 on a component set and atleast 200$ on a good quality amp. there are a number of places you can look, but you may wanna go with sights that will guide you through your install :ie. crutchfield, or www.thezeb.com, or sounddomain.com etc. Pm me for any thing else or more questions/answers

Yeah, all the component speakers i know aren't too cheap, and don't provide a great amount of bass without having to also buy an amplifier. although i'm sure they'd sound great.

That probably is the route I will go... I've got two JBL GT-series component sets in my '69 Executive (5 1/4" with separate 1" tweeters in front, 6x9" in back). I don't have that kind of money anymore tho... actually, I have a lot more, it just has other places to go. I'll have to scour ebay and the Wal-mart clearance rack for some good deals. Now, how about mid-level brands to consider? I'm thinking Kenwood or Pioneer, but I don't know much about their current models/specs.

With 6X9's, remember to get 2-Way speakers, 3 and 4-Ways do not pump out as much bass. I have a pair of Infiniti Reference Series 6X9's that are 2 way that sounded great over stock in my Bonneville. Soon as it warms up, I'll figure out how to get them in my '03 'rora.

if you have the money i would say
KENWOOD eXcelon KFC-Xr61p component speaker system Set
nice midline component set, fairly cheap on ebay, bidding starts at 50 on the pairs i saw. probably get for under 100, buy now for 150, last years model.
a lot of quality bass 1 10 in JL audio W6V2 JL audio 500x 1 mono amp
would take up a bit of room but not as much as 2 pioneer, kicker, rockford, mtx, or what ever brand you'd like to insert that isn't as good as JL
could always go with a 10 in Jl W0, or what i have W3's, for a lot less and still have great subs.
could always downgrade to a kenwood amp for less than 100 on ebay instaed of the JL that is usually 500.

Thanks ob! I have no problem buying "last year's model" of any brand, and as you mentioned they are often discounted quite nicely. I like the sound of JL Audio of course, but unfortunately $500 is out of my range for an amp. I'm still trying to decide if I can (or want to) split up the Alpine / JBL system that I have in my '69 Executive, to give the Aurora some stereo boost.
