For the theftloc system on the 2nd generation, is the code not settable? I know on my Riviera you could specify what the code was so if battery power was disconnected the theftloc would be enabled. Is the radio in the second generation 'smart' enough to know that it is still in the same vehicle? As in, does it have some type of encryption key in the radio that it shares with maybe the PCM and if the two keys do not match the radio is then in the locked mode? Just curious because I wanted to remove the radio at some time to assess the stock setup but don't want the radio to lock on me. The theftloc light IS flashing so it's on, but in the manual it did not mention a way to disable the feature, or how to change the code. thanks!

According to pg. 8-416 in the 2001 factory manual, you can remove the radio & later reinstall the same radio and it will still work. The instructions for the radio R&R are very simple, just the physical R&R of it. There is no mention of having to reset the code. To put in a new radio, according to page 8-415, you have to reset the code. That isn't hard, but you need a scan tool to do that. See carstereohelp.com/stereoremovalOldsAurora1.htmfor the radio R&R in the 2001. __________________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

thanks for the help. You don't happen to have any wiring schematics on hand do you? I'd like to tap into the factory wiring for the front speakers somewhere other than right behind the radio. preferably just before they go into the doors. (above driver's or passenger's footwell)

Wiring schematic for the fronts. I put it on here vertically because it fits the page better that way. ________________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

wow. thanks very much man. That's exactly what I was looking for. Now I just need to find that pesky factory amp if it does exist. According to that wire diagram it does. Unless it's referring to the cd player itself. lol.

The amp is in back of the rear seat back. Remove the rear seat (see the thread I started a long time ago about rear seat removal...it's in the 2nd gen 3.5 V-6 mechanical maintenance section). Give the bench a good hard upwards pull on a corner & it should come out. ________________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!
