I would go with JL Audio for the components, can't go wrong with that.

are you sure that they're 6.5" speakers and not 6 3/4? if they're 6 3/4" you might have trouble installing them too. The screw holes will NOT line up if you get the wrong size of 6" speaker. Can you take any pictures of your stock speaker, and stock speaker mount/setup?

this is easy.. Infinity. Just remember they need a proper break-in period. Don't buy just yet though, we're trying to confirm that your doors can fit 6.5" speakers.

I don't know, my sources say 6 3/4" but I cannot verify because I don't own a classic. Are you getting these installed or are you doing it yourself? I'd get the 6.5" reference if it were me. ... I think they're either the same price, or maybe a few dollars more.

pro installed. Cant be bothered to do it myself. Probably break them or something. These are 5 1/4".
Here are the possibles:
Front Door 6 3/4" Component 5 models 6 1/2" Component 1 model 5 1/4" Component 8 models
You sure that 1 quantity of the component system is for both doors though?

how about these? www.cardomain.com/item/INFKAPPA6525I?vq_id=noneThey're 7" (or also known as 6.75") and they're coaxial so installation will be much cheaper for you. The stock tweeter location on the classics is horrible anyways so I'm thinking a coaxial might sound better for you. They're also the Kappa series, higher end than the Reference.. it goes Reference<Kappa<Kappa Perfects.

6.5" do not fit in our doors, that's what i have though, but i made mine work cause i had a deal i couldn't pass up. they are oversized 6.5" speaker's, as meantioned also known as 6.75" or 7".

cool. I guess you guys should go with a 7" set if you want a direct fit. However, some speaker brands will fit a 6.5" speaker because they have slits for where you screw them in, not holes. I was able to screw my 6.5" woofers into my 7" mount on my 2nd gen door panel by using the provided screws, and washers to hold the speaker in just fine. Just make sure to use speaker gasket to get a good seal. The woofers sound great with no adapter.

Dude, just shop ebay... Everything is a ton cheaper. I second what Dan said about going with coaxials (2-way) instead. Unless your going to do a speaker/head unit/amp install. I would goes with 3-ways for your rear deck 6x9 speakers. I would pony up for these... www.cardomain.com/item/INFKAPPA627I That way you can aim the tweeter. Only $73 on ebay too. BA, I'm pretty sure you have a Bose radio? The Bose's 6.5" front but have a black plastic spacer. You might had to trim some of the door panel to get the speakers to fit. I also had to make a wood spacer because my JL Audios were to big to fit, they hit the door..

I do plan on adding an amplifier later on. I cant afford the 299.99 rear deck component 6x9 system i want yet. In July i will get them though. I just want something that i can listen to that sounds relaly good for now man. My FM radio doesnt even work anymore. So i have no radio right now (and for carlisle trip as well)

Well you said the References were pretty good though right? I didnt really like the reviews for the Rockford Fosgate systems...it was either them or the References. They still gotta be much better than factory ones...cmon.
I didnt go with the 6.5"s because they were only 1 available and it was $349.99 from Boston Acoustics.

I posted a link to the Kappa Coaxials for $78 brand new from a different company. Kappa>Reference. But yes, either will sound better than stock. Just be warned the 5.25" woofers will have almost no bass at all. I have a set of 5.25" kappa components and they had no bass response of any kind just about.

Sigh....i always order or do something wrong. Damn. I need bass....the stock rears still have some. But are you sure there wont be ANY bass at all with the fronts, not even a bit?
|
|
|
Post by Custom88 on Jun 26, 2005 9:50:04 GMT -6
there will be virtually no bass. There will be less than the stock 6.5"s actually because the components you bought are only 5.25". The crossover blocks most bass from the woofer because usually in a higher end system you wouldn't be using a 5" driver for bass.

U sure the stocks are 6.5's in the front doors? They didnt even list 6.5's on crutchfield for the fronts, only the rears had em that big. I will replace them with 6.5's when i get them...

all sources I have say they're 7" speakers. (6.75") some 6.5's (such as infinities) should fit though. I think several on ehre have also said they're 7". You can always return them. It's not a big deal. You've waited so long already..

i got rockford 6x9's and 6½'s. i only paid 200 for all of them and i have enough bass to rattle my radar detector thats above my rearview mirror.

OK. i am exchanging them for 6 3/4 for the fronts. Ltitle bit more money ($30) but worth it for bass. I am gonna get the Rockford Fosgate ones...you said they are great right BA?

6½ fit perfectly in mine. why dont you like the tweet spot on the classic? i love where it is

|
|
Post by Custom88 on Jun 26, 2005 21:39:38 GMT -6
for good sound quality it's in a bad spot. You want the tweeter in front of you as far as possible away for best sound quality and imaging. If it's real close (like on the classic) it isn't going to sound right. Especially since it's about arm height. It'd sound much better just to use coaxials.
I also forgot that for best sound quality you do not want the tweeter and woofer more than 18" apart.

BA...i mean do the Rockford Fosgates you have for the front doors sound really good? I dont give a damn how hard they are to fit, as I am not doing it. Thats what pros are for..hehe. Couldnt care how much installation extra is either. Anyway the review the Rockfords got was horrible on Crutchfield and Epinions. I am shifiting towards the Sony speakers or the Polk Audio ones for 219.99....I will not go for the Boston Acoustics for 349.99. You know what...the hell with it i may just ship these back and just test out the friggin head unit first. At least it will play CD's. I cant play a damn thing right now. Im glad the trip to Carlisle was easy and fast, or I would have been Road Rage for sure.
