I am going to buy an Optima Yellow top this weekend and I am wondering if it would be wise to replace the stock battery with it, or should I just have it in the trunk without any alternator going to it. I am just unsure whether they are meant to be constantly charged (i.e. the alternator). Anyone , thanks in advance for helping.

I would say just go with the Optima battery and check your alternator after that, if you notice dimming issues then go with a higher voltage alternator.

You'll need to recharge the battery somehow so you'll have to connect it to the alternator. Make sure your alternator is up to whatever sort of crazy stereo system you are putting in the car. You may not need to have 2 batteries in the car. An Optima Yellow Top would be a great replacement for stock.

Be careful how you wire the battery to the alternator -- you may being drawing from the car battery instead. Incorrect wiring can also cause overheating of the electrical system
