So i got my car (a 97), minus the keychain remote for the alarm, door locks, etc. Any recomendations on where to find a decent(cheaper) replacement besides the dealer? And also, how does one go about reprograming the new one.
I would like to think this isn't going to be a huge pain to solve??? Or is my innocence bliss right now? Thanks in advance for any help.

does everything have to match including the FCC ID? i found some with the same part number but it lists FCC ID as KOBUT187. and is that the same for a 96 Aurora?

Yes, I believe everything has to match up.
With the serial # that you listed, I think the person listing it screwed up so you should email the seller again. I have no clue about a 96 Aurora.

I don't have the documentation to prove it, but I'm almost sure that by '97 all the Auroras had standard keyless entry/alarm. Search for a remote with FCC ID# KOBUT1BT as erw suggested, and follow the instructions for programming it to your Aurora's computer. That's about the only way you'll know for SURE.

question, about the reprogram. i was reading dred's 98 fact page and it says the DLC is under the dash on the driver side. well i ran to my car and i dont see it under the steering wheel. does that mean its actually right underneath the dashboard or do i take off the plastic cover thats right under the dash above the feet area?

You shouldn't have to remove anything... if you're looking at the steering wheel, go straight down and to the left. It may be mounted or hanging down from that area of the lower dash (right above where your left leg rests). The connector could also be stuffed up inside a small cutout in the plastic, so if you don't see it then look in there and fish it out with your fingers. If you can't find it, post back and I'll toss a photo up.

there is a small hole but i would have to be completely upside down to look into it. is that the spot? and is it some box that i could move around? That hole sounds like the one... I think it's rectangular shaped, maybe 3-4" wide. The OBD-II connector is like a small rectangle "plug", with a few wires running into the vehicle wiring harnesses. Looks like this: If it's not screwed in place like the one pictured, I bet it was dangling down and someone stuffed it up inside that hole. That's what happened to mine, and it took some work to find it and pull it down.

what year is your car? is this the same hookup for diagnostic equipment? cause i think mine is black and max about 1 inch long. really small and its sideways. meaning that the thing is facing the passanger side. it isnt metal and i cant move it. i dont see anything that looks exactly what you have on your car.

1996+ GM cars all have the same OBD-II connector. Whatever you are describing is not the OBD-II, as they all look alike.

i guess mine is different. mine is vertical rather then horizontal. its the exact same as the diagram that someone emailed me. its the same hook up for diagnotic equipment. weird.

No prob, glad to hear she's beeping like a pro! Now you can get your memory seats programmed to your remote (if they're not already), and you're set!
