I know this has been discussed before (as has just about anything that can go wrong with this car ) but I haven't seen one like this: my security light comes on all the time now, but I can start the car and it stays running. I thought "security" = VATS key problem. Does any other condition make this idiot light go on? 7/30: My '95 doesn't have an alarm system. When a door is ajar, the DIC tells me which one it is. When the VATS system doesn't like my key (new or old) it tells me. There is no obvious reason my security light is on. It just comes on and goes off a few minutes later.

sure. If one of the sensors for door, or trunk ajar aren't working correctly, or not at all, you'll get the security light on. Could also be a short of some kind. Does your security system work at all?

If the security light is on steady, that means a part of the theft-deterrent system is not working. You can test the system by opening a window, closing all the doors, and turning on the alarm. Open the door from the inside, if the alarm goes off all is well.

first off 95's dont have an alarm. just a passkey thing. when my security light came on like it use to do it would always say on the DIC "clean key wait 3 min." and it was a pain in the butt. we had to disable the VATS in it.

The "clean key" thing is due to the resistor pellet in the key being worn down. You can get a replacement key made at a decent locksmith or at a gm dealer.
