My cruise control just stopped working. It has been working fine on my 95 with 145k miles, but now is totally dead. The cruise light on the dash doesn't come on when you try to engage it and nothing happens.
What's the first thing I should look for?

I'd suggest checking the fusebox, there is probably a fuse for the cruise control module. If that's not it, your actual module might have taken a dive. On a '95, I'm guessing that repair would probably cost more than what the convenience of cruise control is worth.

hmm, yeah, if the fuse is alright, maybe see if you can find a control box at a junk yard, i'm not sure if they're the same though because of the whole OBD-I and OBD-II difference

Believe it or not, I was told that if your 3rd brake light (in the back window) went out, it would stop your cruise control from working. If your 3rd light is out, replace the bulb (and let me know if that's true or not).

Well, I checked the fuse that the cruise control module is on and its ok. This fuse is located on the left hand side of the drivers dash and is also the fuse for the power train control module.
I took the suggestion about the third brake light seriously, and checked it out. It turns out that none of the brake lights work, so I checked out the fuse for that and it also good. Now I need to track down why my brake lights don't work and hope it is related to the cruise failure.
If I find out what is wrong, I'll post it here.

Sounds like it's all related to me. You might need to start removing panels and following wires, to see if there is a short somewhere. Moved to "Audio & Electric".

If your brake light switch on the pedal is bad, doesn't that also activate the cruise-disconnect, and that may cause it to fail as well (did in my jeep). Just another place to look-good luck!

I've looked at the brake switch and it's fine. Designed to be pretty much fool proof. I'm guessing that it's hooked to the computer which scans the state of the switch and then activates the brake lights. I'm worried that something is wrong with my computer.

I seemed to notice on mine that the Cruise control would work intermidently, then it seemed to quit altogether. In the meantime Occasionaly the DIC would show check oil level, then it started to do it all the time after I had my oil changed. while replacing my A/C compressor I noticed the oil sensor was broke and replaced it, afterwhich my cruise started working again.
