Hello, I have a 2002 with the navigation system. The radio/CD system has the speed compensated volume. On my 01 with the Bose there was a separate SCV button that would allow you to disable the SCV, but on the navigation radio there is none. I read the navigation supplement and it explains the function of the SCV, but does not mention any way to disable it. I find the system quite annoying when your trying to carry a conversation and the volume gets louder and louder, then if you lower it you can barely hear it. Does anyone know how to disable the SCV on the navigation radio? Thanks, Al

I feel your pain, man. My Mazda6 has that system and it's sooooo irritating! Thankfully, that one was easy to disable. There has to be a way to disable it on the Aurora. Worst case scenario - you clip the wire (before the dock port) that sends the speed sensor data to the radio. Good luck.

The best you will be able to do is adjust the sound level to the best possible setting that is tolerable to you. Hope this helps! skexius

I would love to have this feature in my car. My wife has it in her G6 and I think it's awesome. If you're having a conversation in your car why do you listen to a radio in the first place? There's that shut off button, I'm sure:)

Everybody, Thanks for your input. Shawn mentioned cutting the speed input wire, and unless someone can tell me another way I think I'll go in that direction. Does anyone know the color code on that wire and where I could access it without taking the console/dash apart? I find it difficult to believe that Olds has it as an option on the other radios, but not this one. I hope I'm wrong. Al

Well, unfortunately the 2002 nav radio option seemed a bit, um, compromised. For example, you could not get it with the Bose speakers (which is one reason I have no nav system). In 2003 that changed, though I don't know if the SCV control did. With no adjustment, I'd think it must be kind of annoying, as on "med" the adjustment range is pretty big unless you have the windows open.

I don't think it's possible to just 'clip' a wire either. The speed is probably sent over the data communications link to the radio. This means it comes directly from the PCM. You do not want to cut that wire going to the PCM or you'd have some major problems. I really doubt there is a wire you can clip to get rid of the SVC. On vehicles that do not have the GM Class II data bus it may be possible, but not on the Aurora.

Never too loud when I'm sitting still, never too soft when I'm driving. Can you adjust the level of the SCV, or is it completely uncontrollable?

My wifes 2003 Malibu has the SCV feature and it has a button for 4 settings (OFF, LOW, MED, HIGH). It's a nice feature to have.

On the Bose radio, you can adjust it to off, min, med, and max. Apparently on the nav radio you can't adjust it. The same is true of the Bose radio in my 1990 Chevy. I also like it a lot as I hate how you have to turn the radio up as you speed up, then if you come to a stop it's blaring.

Check with your local Caddy dealer, they may have something up their sleeve on this one.

perhaps the SVC could be turned off at the dealer, like oldsauroraman1 was hinting to. A Tech II scanner might beable to change the configuration of the radio so that it does not have the SVC. It's a good possibility that it can be done at the dealer. Ask them first. If they say they do not know, ask them to check the settings that can be changed on the radio free of charge that way it'll benefit you both. You'll get what you want, and they'll learn something new.

I think Auroraman and Custom88 are on the right track. There is no way to change the SCV setting at the head unit on this model, but it might be possible for the dealer to plug into it and change settings. I have a Cadillac, Chevy, ex Olds dealer in my town. I see a trip to the dealer coming up. Thanks guys. Al
