Is there a way to take off the chrome trim and paint it? I hate chrome and gold. I think it would look much better in black like the rest of the car.

I would guess it's the same as painting anything else, sand - prime - paint - protect.

Honestly I dont think the issue lies in removing the trim, I'm sure you could peel it off somehow, but putting it back on securely would be a daunting task.
So, you have a black Aurora and wish to paint the trim around the windows black?, I always felt the chrome sets it off nicely, but meh, its all good. I would be very careful with what you intend to do.

yes, thats what I was wondeing, if the removal and reinstulation process would be nasty. I like the stealth look with no chrome anyways.. I hate chrome and gold with a passion.

The strips are chromed plastic. Would you strip the chrome off, or just paint over it? You might find it easier to just mask it off well while still on the car, or to just buy all new trim and paint it before installation. I would bet at least some of it wouldn't go back on once removed.
You also might try a photochop first just to see what it would look like.

good idea aurora40, I might just leave it though it sounds like a pain in the ass. they should have made chrome a option.

how could anyone hate chrome if there's anything i hate worse its these new cars with all plastic black trim (looks cheap) and mouldings.....chrome gives the car class, right Jim ?? gives the car the flavor of the old 'muscle car" genre when everything was made of chrome, like the bumpers from my 77 cutlass... if anything, i wish the auroras a had a little more chrome

I hate chrome, it looks cheap to me. it looks so 80's and old had. I'm not into the 'bling bling' crap. I had a 97 cutlass supreme that diddnt have a inch of chrome. I just cleaned, polished and waxed everyting on it. looks more stealth. looks more complete and not a rediclous 'bling bling' mobile. less is more. it got more complements then a 'bling bling' mobile and sold in no time. chrome and the shiny pieces of metal is gaudy. ACK!

Being a lover and owner of classic cars, I can't do anything but LOVE chrome. Of course it must be tastefully done, and yeah certain recent trends do tend to overdo the "bling factor" as it has come to be known. Overdoing gold trim is even worse IMO. To each his/her own!
