I got my notice in the mail yesterday regarding purchasing a new $74 sticker for my license plate, making me valid to operate my motor vehicle in Ontario for another year. As well, as notification of DriveClean emissions testing. www.driveclean.com (such a childish goverment site, makes me nutzy) $35 CDN for the test, and if you fail you pay for what gets fixed in order to pass, then another $17.99 for a retest I told my buddies at a local Midas, what if I fail? Brian looks at me bluntly and says.... "You wont fail" ;D

I told my buddies at a local Midas, what if I fail? Brian looks at me bluntly and says.... "You wont fail" ;D Sounds like a winner to me! It's nice to "know" people when it comes to times/expenses like these. But really, there is no reason you *should* fail if your car is in good working order... right?

Your hydrocarbons emissions score is severly impacted by the temperature of your catalytic converters. That said drive your car in a spirited fashion for at least 20 minutes before inspection. Waiting in line for inspection? The converters will cool down, especially during winter time. My 95 530i was infamous for failing HC when the converters cooled down. What BMW owners came up with was a simple solution: Hold the car at 3k rpm for 3 minutes every 5 minutes of idling to keep the converters warm. Worked like a charm and more than 90% of those who failed beforehand passed fine with this method. That said, congrats on passing Jim!

Thats exactly what it was. The car sat all morning at -20*C then went in for emissions after only 5 minis of driving. Thanks for reminding me of the cold kitty issue there Kobalt, makes more sense now. Granted if I drove a lot more, the number would have been lower. As for the results Bobby got, could it be vehicle/engine specific? Different standards for different cars? I dunno...

There's actually talk here in Ohio about getting rid of the emission testing stations. I know it's only 20 bucks every other year, but seems like a waste of money to me. Is this required in every state, or just states that have so called bad air?

Emissions tests are required only in states wherein the politicians there have decided that the air is dirty. I think that about half of all states do this. _______________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

The provincial government in Ontario is considering doing away with it, but its a cash cow for them, so why stop right?

If not Squinty McGinty then some other official wanting to suck your money ultimately into his/her back pocket VIA bloated wages, expense accounts and pension plans of politicians.
