Does anybody know how to remove the rear seat bench in the 2001? I tried following the procedure in both the shop manual and the owner's manual, but the seat bench wouldn't move an inch. ________________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

Heh, I tried it once just to see what it looked like. I too could not get the seat to move. I was concerned about damaging it, and didn't really need it off, so I gave up.

This has me annoyed. You'd think, what with the battery being under the rear seat, that they would have made the rear bench easy to remove! __________________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

Did the method of removal change from the classic pull up the front of the seat-- mine (1996) takes a sharp tug to move it. Isnibs

It did change. The shop manual for the 2001 says to simultaneously push back and then pull up. It will pull up a small amount, but there is absolutely no moving it backwards....it just won't budge at all in that direction. ________________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

I won't....I'm going to keep on working on this. When it comes to car problems, I don't give up very easily. ________________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

My old dad, when something like this happened, always said "if all else fails try brute force and ignorance." I hope it doesn't come to this.

I got mine out and its completely easy. From outside the car, grab the front corner part of the seat from either side of the car. Give it a good tug up and the seat should just pop right out. To get it back in i usually put the trunk end in first to ensure the seatbelt clips stay up and dont go under the seat and it should pop right back into place.
