My engine light recently appeared, then disappeared after a day. The manual was pretty vague regarding this issue. Is this something that I should be concerned with? I certainly do not want to take this to my dealer if I am not required.
thanks in advanced.

If it comes on again, get the car scanned at Autozone or somewhere that has an OBD2 scan tool.

Did you get gas at that time? If the gas filler cap is not tight enough, it might set off the check engine light. _____________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

Also check the seal on the cap, and see that there's no dirt on the rim of the filler tube that could interfere with sealing. ____________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

Checked the cap. Tightened until it clicked. Your suggestionwas on the gas cap.....duh...guess that will teach me to read warnings. BYW, the car has 37K on it. Guess I'll get it scanned. Thanks for the suggestion.

If it was just the cap, you wont have to get it scanned but if you are concerned about other possible codes, then go for it!

IF I get the code from the scan, would someone here be able to assist with the diagnostics, or is there another site that could assist?

Make sure that when you tighten the gas cap that you make it "click" at least 3 times.
