When the battery cables are disconnected, will that cause the DIC to lose data such as average MPG or gasoline used? ___________________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

I don't know for ceartin but chances are the data will not be lost. Disconnectiong the battery does not for example erase your radio station presets or time. Since the DIC is heavily integrated with the radio, the information might not be lost after all.

You can buy a little 9V battery adapter that plugs into the cigarette lighter to keep that info. I suppose if you are unhooking the battery to reset codes or the PCM, then maybe the little battery is a bad idea. I'd bet it will mess up your mileage stats, though.

Some DIC settings are stored, but I know others can get messed up when battery power is low or lost. A couple months ago, my battery diminished considerably and my DIC went all nuts on me. The date changed and the Oil Life indicator dropped to 0%... everything else remained the same, and it's all been fine since I've kept my battery charged. EDIT: of course this was on my '99 ... I know the 01+ DIC is different, but I'm guessing it is wired similarly.

Aurora40....I'm going to get that 9V feeder. I guess I'll need it eventually for when I put in a new battery. Scottydl...Thanks for the info. __________________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

the data is stored I think. When I went to test drive the 2001 today the battery was dead and when it started the DIC still said 22 MPG average.
