on my 01, the left rear window has come off the track, for no apparent reason. How hard of a fix is this, or should I just bend over and take it to the dealer?

What symptoms are there to suggest that the window has come off the track? I don't think that it's really possible after looking at the window setup. The regulator however, will break making the window fall into the door and not come back up. The dealer cost is nearly $400 to fix it. You can do it yourself for a little over $200. there's a post around here somewhere with instructions I made. let me find it. aurorah.proboards47.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=Audio&thread=1126551257&page=1

Dan, when you press the switch, you can hear the motor operating, but the window will not go up or down, unless you grab it from both sides and pull it up. It fell down last night about 2-21/2 inches. I've already had the right front window regulator/motor replaced ($379), and these are different symptoms. Could be the cable, I guess. I have it up now, with some folded cardboard holding it temporarily. Always something...

that's what my brother's Bonneville did too. You could hear the motor going, but the window would not move.

Jeesh! I'd hate to have my window slide down on its own in this monsoon we are having in New England today. Hello Wilma!

My 01 had a bad regulator. Had to buy the new regulator with motor because GM redesigned the part. The original one had plastic parts where the new one has metal parts. It was one of those pieces of plastic that broke causing the cable to get all screwed up. It isn't too hard to fix it yourself. Surprisingly you need no tools to remove the door panel. It pulls straight out around the edges and then you lift up releasing the two clips in the middle.

I had the same thing happen to my passenger side rear window. I just made sure I had the window all the way up, took a hose clamp and tightened it around the mettle to hold it in place and then disconnected the electric to it. Window is now disabled and will never be an issue again:) I never roll the rears down anyway, it was my son screwing around that broke it in the first place.

My wife had it happen to her 2001 right rear passenger window. She tried to put down the iced window.
I had it done...$200 and some change if I recall correctly.
