On my 01 3.5l I have had a rattling noise for a year or two. It sounds as though it is coming from the center console near, or under the gear shift knob. I took the side panels off and found nothing wrong. Here is the thing, the rattling only occurs at highway speeds and is affected by wind conditions. I have looked under the car for loose pieces that might be rattling in that area but didn't have any luck. Anyone else had this problem and know the solution?

Are you sure you aren't missing some clips from that plastic tray under the nose of the car? I'd say it would be a very likely culprit, and the noise might evidence itself near the center console. Ours has a very annoying one somewhere behind the gauge cluster in the dash that constantly makes itself known at idle. If you push inward on the gauge cluster, it goes away. I haven't been brave enough to tear into that side of the dash yet, however, so I don't know if it's fixable. It had it when we got the car at 11,000 miles.
