Hello all, I have a 2001 3.5L with 91,000 miles. What is it going to take to change the rear air shocks on my car? Is there any special tools to this job? Is it something I can doing myself? Was thinking of getting Monroe shocks, is that a good choice? Thank you for your input.

I got the Monroes on a 4.0 last month and they've worked well. I went with the Air Max #MA822. I went to a PepBoys and the installation was only fifty bucks extra. Basically I got two shocks - installed - for less than the price of one OEM shock. Around $230 total.
Note that if you go to shops like Pepboys you will have to tell them that the MA822 fits. Their computers didn't list anything and they just turned me away until I did their homework and told them what parts work.
If you DIY I've looked at teh Service Manual and the instructions are essentially the same as in the thread above. The torque wrench was the one that I didn't have handy, the other is a good set of 1/2 inch auto sockets - sometimes the handle on a 3/8 socket wrench just ain't gonna turn the bolt.

The Monroes were around $180 a pair. $50 went into installation.
