I am in a brake fluid replacement mode and have completed it on two other vehicles. One called for DOT 3 and the other DOT 4. I used Valvoline Synpower synthetic which claims to be compatible with both DOT3 and DOT 4 and which has higher wet and dry boiling points than the DOT 4. I was suprised that the Aurora (2001) manual called for DOT 3 figuring that cars of that vintage would use DOT 4 ( what do I know?) Does anyone know whether there is any reason to not use DOT 4 or the higher rated Valvoline Synpower in the Aurora system?

I think I would stick with what the manual says, but, it's your car. Mine stops very well with Dot 3.

When it comes to vehicle fluids, I have a tendancy to stick with manufacturer suggestions. I would stick with DOT3 in this case. Unless someone else has a compelling reason to use something else, its recommended to stick with the instructed fluids.

You can use DOT 4. DOT 4 fully meets DOT 3 specs. Just don't use DOT 5 or silicon fluid.
I also use Valvoline Synpower. It seems pretty good for a locally-available fluid.
