Hello all! I'm a new owner of an '01 Aurora and I'm much more pleased with this car than I had expected. Unfortunately some problems have become the reason to search for a site like this, but I'm glad something brought me here. Here in NY state every car gets dings because of so many careless people but I'm amazed that somehow the Aurora's avoid them, probably by using well-designed guards. I could go on and on about the things I like about this car.
Anyways what I'm experiencing is everything just turns off while driving down the road, headlamps, dash lights and all. I put it in neutral and turn the ignition off and restart it while coasting. It just started doing this two days ago and it does it a couple times each time I drive it.
Then today when I went to leave the store it wouldn't start when I turned the key. Nothing came on at all. The windows and the radio wouldn't power with the key in any position which is not how it normally functions, although the door locks worked fine. Then an hour later just before AAA got there, it just started and ran like a charm. There was no hesitation in the starter that would normally tell me that the battery was bad.
So I'm off to have the codes read and hopefully there is something that's been flagged. I'm wondering if anyone else here has had similar experiences and I'll post the results when I get them. And of course, thanks for such a great board!

hmm i think it a relay under the rear seat, and it might be the batt.

My guess: Bad ignition switch.

You'll have to track down the problem starting with the ignition switch and work your way through the electrical system from there. Good luck. It is probably a bad contact somewhere.

Just got the codes read... The camshaft position sensor and the crankshaft position sensor are both flagged. I guess you can get no-starts when both are bad. Looks like just under $100 total, but I'll be winging it for a couple of days while I'm waiting for them to be in stock. Guess I'm happy since I was fearing it could have been the computer or the security module, so I blew a few bills on stuff at the auto store for this baby!
