Hey,
For some reason, my e-brake won't engage anymore. I go to press down on the lever, but all it does is move maybe an inch and then stops. Doesn't matter if I kind of stomp on it or move it with my hand. It's as if the "ratchet" part of the brake is locked somehow. Anyone know how to fix this?
It's a 2001 4.0.
Thanks.

Check out the parking brake cable, it could be jammed up or else you'll have to take apart the rear brakes and figure out the problem from there, if you are not handy, take it in to a shop.

The cable is fine, it's the assembly itself. There's some piece that locks it. I unbolted it from the frame and played around with it and got it to work again, but it stopped again this morning. I called a GM dealership and they want to charge me 2.7hrs plus $140 CAD for the part. Don't know where they get off charging me almost 3hrs for a 1hr job. Bunch of thieves.

I had a similar problem with my GXP twice but in the wrong way. I had a habit of always using my parking brake when I parked. Well after getting stuck because it would not release twice the dealer on second trip decided to replace the assembly. Then claimed I was using too much and not to use it unless on a hill.
