If any of you read my other thread about my car being in the shop then you'll know that they told me about a bunch of little preventive maintenance things that should be done on my car. One of which was the flushing or cleaning of the injectors. My question is; Is this really worth having done, or will a product like Gumout or something similar work just as well?

You'd probably get better cleaning of the injectors, especially if they are very dirty, by cleaning & flushing them rather then pouring a relatively small amount of Gumout in the gas tank.

They may be trying to sell you something. Gasoline these days is very clean & has some cleansing ability of its own. After only 47,000 miles I think that the chances of fuel injectors being clogged are very remote.

If you are not have starting or drivability issues I'd pass on the injector cleaner. However, not all gasolines are equal. Check this out: www.toptiergas.com

Dude i think that they are taking you for a ride. My uncle is a GM service advisor and he told me not to worry about much of that stuff on our cars for almost 100K. He said that the cars are pretty much tanks when it comes to the engine bay.

well not really......i didnt get any of that stuff done....the PCV, and the fuel filter i had done for preventative maintenance, and the A/C needed charging, and I had my coolant changed because its been over 5 years. i didnt get taken for a ride at all. the in cabin air filter could be changed cuz its a little dirty but ill do that myself. i opted out of the injector cleaning as well as the tranny flush and fill. so for my $255 spent, i got a good deal

The only thing I would have had them do is the tranny service, A/C, fuel filter, PCV and coolant. Cleaning the injectors would be a waste. Use some injector cleaner every few tanks with the highest octane fuel you can find and let'er rip a few times. This should clean out any carbon in the cylinders.

I would not get mine cleaned until I had at least 100,000 miles and then only if I was having hesitation and such. "Dont believe the hype....Dont believe the hype" lol...seriously though I would wait.
