How the heck do you do this? The service manual only explains how to do it on the steel trunk, if you can believe that. They even explicitly state in the instruction that it's only for the steel trunk, but then don't bother to have a section about the aluminum 4.0 trunk.
The owner's manual was no help either.
There are screws on the exterior, but I can't see how they'd do anything, as the housing is set up in the trunk, not attached from the outside. Do I have to pull the liner off the trunk lid??

Here's the whole procedure from the 2001 shop manual................................................................... Thanks Marc! What the heck, did they cut that out of the 2002 version?

They seem to have done that. And why they did that is beyond me.

I tried for about four hours... Seriously, I couldn't figure it out. I did not have any sort of manual, however. Just my ingenuity, or lack thereof. Ended up giving up, and the dealer replaced it for a small fee of $18 (!!!!) when they took care of the crankshaft position sensors. Of course, that was before I knew the car was still under warranty.

Get the shop manual here. It's expensive at $135.00, but absolutely essential for doing any work on this car.

but absolutely essential for doing any work on this car. Unless you buy the 2002 manuals. Then it's useless for things like changing your license plate bulbs... Yours also has some info on draining the tranny that I recall you posting. They cut that out of the '02 manual also.

As I said before, I don't understand why they omitted info like that. Another case in point: the 2001 manual doesn't say how to remove the shifter knob, but the 2002 does.

How do you remove the shifter knob?! I've pondered that for ages...

Aurora40 put that info on here sometime last year, but I can't find that thread. I had printed it, though. It's actually simple..............
"Remove the shift knob by pulling straight up. There are no clips, pins, or fasteners."

"Remove the shift knob by pulling straight up. There are no clips, pins, or fasteners." Careful you don't punch yourself in the mouth. It wouldn't be the first time. I had to replace one of the license plate bulbs. I got hung up on step 2. The trim clips would not come out. I was able to get one off and stuck my arm up there and felt around for it. Like a proctologist. Anyway, the bulb shattered while trying to remove it. Thankfully, no one saw me do that. Long story short, it can be done without removing the whole trim.
