Hey how long do you let your car warm up?
Mine usually takes about 30secs to drop its revs from initial start up.

Does you Aurora rev at about 1500 RPM and then drop to 1000 RPM after a minute?

30 seconds or so for me too. I don't necessarily wait until my RPM's show any difference, but that's the time limit I've read is sufficient for most engines to get the oil flowing.

I wait for the revs to drop. Usually about 30 seconds if it sat for a while. I believe it's an emissions thing to warm up the cats faster.
I don't drive it hard until the coolant is fully warmed and the oil pressure has dropped (indicating it is warm).

Quote from another site, "No oil is thin enough for startup". I try to let the car warm as much as time permits. If not late for anything a couple of minutes. I check oil pressure for a drop before moving in gear. However I cop to often being late, then it's the 30 second minimum. My GF starts her car, then revs it a second and goes off at full speed, always being late. She's the one who had no oil and no water in the last one.

Hehe dan..i let it run for about a minute too. In 90 degree weather, its up to operating temp in about 3 minutes just sitting.

2001 4.0.......I let the RPMs drop below 1000 before putting it in gear. The RPMs take about 45 secs to go from about 1250 RPM to about 900 RPM on a cold start. _________________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

The PCM on the 2nd gen is what does this. It's a very distinct dropping of revs, not a slow drop.

Wait till it slows down, then take it easy until it reaches regular operating temperature. THEN GO!

It has protective stuff like oil pressure etc that if you even start it up and floor it right away, you really cant hurt it too bad. Sure it places more wear but most people do that anyway.
