I have a 2001 Aurora 4.0 and for some reason the car stalls once in awhile in idle when in gear. I very recently changed the spark plugs and fuel filter. I wouldn't say it is a gas issue either. It doesn't sputter or anything, it just dies. It does start right back up, so not sure what might cause this? Could this possibly be a crank positioning sensor?? Any ideas???
Thanks!

Sounds like the Crank Sensors, there are 2 of them and from what I've heard if you are semi-mechanically inclined, you can do them yourself. My car (an '03) had them re-programmed and then replaced before I bought it. There is a thread on that in this section. The sensors are not that expensive and really are a DYI job. Good Luck.

BNICOV,
Thank you for your reply. Any idea what brand of parts to use, and how much they cost. I saw a GP Sorenson parts for upper and lower sensors costing 56.96 each. Does this sound accurate to you?
Thanks again!

There's another thread in this section that deals with it. I would stick to using the GM original sensors, aftermarket stuff when it comes to the electronics can be iffy. Someone mentioned the sensors running 70 bucks, I'm not sure if that is for one of them or both. Try gmpartsdirect.com they should have the parts for cheap. I don't know the part numbers, if anyone can help with that please chime in.

These symptoms are synonymous to ones experienced by a few 2000+ Cadillac Seville (shares powertrain architecture with the Aurora). The fix for many was a PCM reprogram at the dealer.

Kobalt, you are right, however, the more permanent fix is to replace the sensors. My '03 had the reprogram done and a few months later the sensors were replaced under warranty by the previous owner.

From experience on our '01 - crank sensors and as stated be sure to replace both. BNICOV is dead on.

Crank sensors it is, then. Probably cheaper than a dealer reprogram anyway as once can DIY the crank sensors but the pcm re-flashing is another story. Good job on finding a definite fix BNICOV.

i know this is kind of overkill, as it has already been established, but the same thing happened to my car, and it indeed was the CPS
