hi does anyone have this whistle type of sound when accelerating hard in the 2nd gen. 4l. i think its normal but why does this happen?

I've never noticed this. There's some intake noise and some mechanical noise, but it's not very significant. Nothing I'd call a whistle. However, there's a lot of air moving, so something could certainly whistle.

Check to see if there's anything in the cold air intake. Something stuck in there could change airflow characteristics & cause the noise. I have found dead leaves in the air box in my 2001 4.0. It's possible that something could have been pulled in.

I have a 02 4.0 and never noticed any whistling. I agree with Marc could be something could be caught in the intake.

My 3.5L does whistle however... most here have heard it in a video I posted before.

Have you recently installed a turbocharger accidently? They tend to whistle.

Mine whistles too and it sounds like it's the exhaust. It's kind of cool. Sounds like KITT from Knight Rider when he takes off. I notice my grandfather's Acura does that when I punch it as well.
