Hi everybody, Been conversing with dred98 and he suggeted I should introduce myself since I am truly an Aurora lover too. Had three so far..'96, only 6 months only and totaled due to being hit, while stopped to make left hand turn, by a 60km/hr. school bus from behind and a tractor trailer carrying t loads of brick from the front (driven head on into him), and then dragged my my passenger side for quite a distance until the trailer wheel dropped off the truck and lowered me to the road again...that car tore off the wheel..can you believe it. That car literally saved my life. The interior was absolutely untouched. And I was safe. I replaced it as soon as able with a brand new 97 and loved it to pieces until 58,000 miles when they did a smalljob in the engine (had to pull out the engine to do it) and from then on - oil leaks non stop. But I loved it so much, I didn't care...just keep repairing it (engine removed three times under warrenty but it could never been repaired properly. So I drove around with tons of oil in my trunk and I filled it up when it needed it which was always. We had our interlock brick drive'way repaired too to clean up the oil residue so it wasnt just car repairs because of it and in the end I wouldn't ever park in anyone's driveway because of it. But I still loved it. Well, last week my husband bought a new Jeep Overland and was to pick it up on Sat. am. On Friday preceeding the parts came in for my Aurora to fix it (ABS and Traction) plus the radiator (coolant was sludge) $$$ and the mechanic told him not to waste his time and money anymore because it was very sick. (Double pneumonia). My husband called me and told me he would do it but he felt I should call it a day and he would buy me a new Nissan Ultima 3.5. Well, I finally gabve in and he called the Jeep people to tell them about my car (oil problem and all) and they gave him a price (which wasn't much) and he took it. Deal done! Well, I cried all night, and on Sat. I cried more when I had to empty the car and all the oil bottles I kept for it. And I cried when my plates were removed, and I cried when we drove out of the dealer's lot in our brand new Jeep Overland, and I cried all the way back to our city. Wellllllll, my husband stopped off at his business on the way home and went straight to his computer and when I asked him what he was doing, he told me...checking out auto-traders for a '99 Aurora. HE FOUND ONE! and he bought it for me .. that day..so at 4pm I was crying because I was now the proud owner of a 1999 Autobahn model Antelope metallic (???fabulous colour but I think the colour name is wrong) -debadged, loaded again Aurora with 80,000 km (not miles) on it...original owners and in mint condition. Like new inside and out and the engine runs as smooth as butter. So you can see I am still in love with my Aurora and everybody is laughing because it appears identical to my other babies. It is and I am so happy. Like I said to dred98...you gotta believe in miracles! Anyway, that is my story and intro. Great site. I'm on it because you people all are great, knowledgeable, and fun. What a terrific site. Nice to meet you.

Hey welcome aboard pyramidos,
Reading your experiences with the Aurora, made it hard for me to drink my beer.
But ah, hope you you have fun with the 1999 Aurora, I have a 99 as well.
Javi.

Welcome! Is your new 1999 a Canadian car? Or did you move to Canada between cars? Or basically what's with the conversion from miles to km? And is the "enter" key missing from your keyboard? Just kidding...

Sorry for such a long message. Just so excited still. I sort of overlooked the enter key for sure. Actually it's a Canadian car, and the conversion is from 80k (80,000 kilometres) converted to approximately 50m (50,000 miles).

Hey - welcome to the forum ! Glad you decided to introduce yourself - you must be one of the few people around here that's owned 3 Auroras - all of them classics too. Hope you have a lot better luck with number three. ;D

By the way - if you check your car for the colour code someone will be able to tell you the right name for the colour. Champagne was a new colour for 1999 but it could be something else. The code is at the bottom of the RPO list on the back of the spare tire cover in the trunk. Follows BC/CC on the last line.

Welcome pyramidos! When I saw the nick I assumed we had a South of the Border member, what a surprise to have such a wonderful story and another North of the Border member. I nominate your first entry as best of the lot, at least until someone tops you. That is truly the greatest "loyalty to the Aurora nameplate" testimonial to date.
I'll have my GF, who is buying another car in a couple of days and thinks the Aurora is too big, read your post.

Do you have any pictures of any of your Auroras? And any impressions on year-to-year differences?

A big welcome also Pyramidos! And another Canuck EH? I bought my wife her Diamond White 97 in May of this year and we have both fallen very much in love with it. And I know that we would be looking for another one if anything ever should happen to ours.

Welcome aboard! Great story!
Now if you still owned them all now, you would be the winner of us all.
Maybe you should send that intor to GM just to torture them, they deserve it for killing Olds.

Hi Aurora40. If I can locate some photos I'll get them on the screen. All three, '96, '97, and '99 have been the same tones although somewhat lighter or darker from each other (champagne). There was a notable difference, for me on my own cars, between the handling of the '96 and the 97' Definitely firmer, more concise handling on the '97. And now, I find it even more together on the '99. I put nearly 200,000 km on my '97, from new, and just over 20,000 km , from new, on my '96 before it was totaled but I noticed the difference on the first day of receiving and driving my '97. My '99 is a dream as well, and handles just great. It is very responsive and fast!!!!! I am a former vet, 300zk, z28, lexus sc400, 300zx, and currently BMW roadster owner, and I wouldn't trade my Aurora for any of them. It definitely flies and doesn't seem to want to stop. It's true, the faster you go in this big car, the faster it seems to want to go, and you don't even realize it because it is to connected to the road. My vet, once, felt like it was off the road. I couldn't feel the tires on the pavement. (Going a little fast then) Now that scared me!! Regarding the style, not too much difference in the '96 and '97, but I do miss the 'cat's eyes' on the '99, meaning, the fog lamps. When they were on ,(and I kept them on all the time because of the look) they looked like two large cat's eyes, if you were looking at it while driving in front of it at night (if I was driving another car and my husband was driving from behind in mine at night I would keep looking in the rear view mirror because it looked like a huge menacing cat coming up from behind - awesome looking car at night and I loved to look at it) The '99 doesn't have that wrap around look at night - I checked. Other than that I don't notice a whole lot of differences. The rear seats seem to have more curve to them on the back though. Other than that, just very minor changes. Not too familiar with the technical stuff but it feels and performs unbelievably. Also, amazing handling on the snowy and icy roads last night. Just hugged and hugged the surface. Traction on these cars is beautiful. I never worried about my Aurora keeping me straight and tight to the road on days like yesterday. Regards, and I absolutely love this board. You guys are all great.

You probably meant keeping your fog lights on with out the head lights, right?
Well you still can do that, there is a way to override the DRL's, so only the foglights can come on.
You have to disable the DRL's first.

Hey PYRAMIDOS in case I forget to mention, Just to let you know, I'm putting together a Custom Indiglo Gauges pre-order for the Classic Aurora. You can find more detailed information at the website below. www.speedhut.com/15orders_el_detail.asp?auto_number=75&bhcp=1No one else in the web or internet has them available, so we in the pre-order would be the very first people to own a set of these gauges. Thanks, Javi.
