My wife & I found a 01 w/ 49,800 miles on it. A friend of mine @ a gm dealership ran the vin # for me & gave me a list of work that has been done; wheel hub bearings @ 4k miles p/s gear @ 4K replaced cat. converter @ 36k crank sensor @ 36k replaced cruise switch @ 48k replaced air pump @ 48k We would be the 3rd owners Dealer is giving us 2 month / 2k miles for warranty My friend is telling me there is 60k, 0$ deductible warranty, that the 2nd owner took out. Is the dealer that we would be buying from afraid of potential problems Can any one help. Thanks in advance

Is it a certified car? You could see if the dealer will sell you a longer warranty. Some '01s, especially early ones, had a fair number of servicing done. But many of the things should be fine after being replaced with updated parts like the crank sensor. I'm surprised by the cat. convertor, though. But I guess it can happen.

No surprise about the steering. A lot of the early 2001s had trouble there.

auroa40 & marc Thanks for the responces The car is not certified, I even asked the sales rep about the balance of warranty. He did not even offer to check on it and get back to me. The build date on the door jam was 6/01.

I hope that's not a sign of things to come on our '01. Is it a V8 or V6?

Dealers can do it, or you can run a Carfax report yourself to get the owner & service history. BUT keep in mind that only dealer service/parts will probably show up; I'm thinking most smaller garage mechanics don't have the time or resources to enter every repair they do into the GM database.

the dealer probably will not tell you about that warranty if they'r enot honest because they want to make their own money on selling you a warranty. Luckily the dealer I dealt with on my 01' WAS honest and told me about the warranty until 60,000 miles, or 5 years.

Look at the doorjamb sticker for the production date. My "01" Was actually manufactured in January 2000. A fairly large number of early 01s like mine had electrical gremlins. As with most cars, Auroras got better over time and later 01s did not have these problems. In short, I would stay away from the early ones like mine and get a later production "01" model for good relaiblilty and best value.
