Hello All, I am a new guy to the forum as I just bought a 98 Aurora on Ebay. I made a bid that I thought would not be accepted and BAM I won it. I have several friends with these cars and they really like them. It is about 2 hours away and I will pick it up today. It looks like a decent car with 110 K miles, time will tell. I am sure you will be hearing a lot from me shortly as I am and old wrench turner from way back. I have used forums on other vehicles and find them to be super. After I drive the car home, I will let you know how I really did.

Congrats! I "bought" my Aurora under similar circumstances as yours, basically made the deal over the phone and drove almost 3 hours to test drive and pick it up. Do you mind passing along the eBay item # of the auction? That way we can all get a preview. Welcome to the ACNA forums too... I think you'll like it here, we've got a nice little community going.

Welcome aboard sboblett! We'll look forward to your wrench turning experiences with your Aurora. '98 is a good year so I hope you don't have too many of them. ;D

Welcome!! I bought my Aurora on eBay as well, and have had predominately good experiences despite the fact that mine had relatively higher mileage also. I hope your experiences are similarly pleasant. If they're not however, fear not, there are some very knowledgable and helpful guys on this board who can be a real lifesaver.

Hello Folks, thanks for the welcome and kind words. I made it home, the car did nicely except a couple of miles from home I got the "service engine soon" light. There were no symptoms, just the light. I didn't notice it until after I changed the transmission mode to power, I think. In my comfortabe sitting position, the steering wheel obscures this light somewhat but I do not think I missed it before that. I guess I will have to purchase an OBD II reader as I do not think the car has the ability to read the codes as Jags and Cadillacs do. Any suggestions?

I guess I will have to purchase an OBD II reader as I do not think the car has the ability to read the codes as Jags and Cadillacs do. Any suggestions? You don't necessarily have to purchase a reader. Auto parts chain stores like Autozone, etc. will gladly read the codes from your car PCM. Just drive on down and ask the folks behind the counter if they would be so kind.

Ebay linkWOW, $1700 plus expenses is a GREAT price for a '98, even with higher mileage. Nice find! Get your OBD-II codes read when you can, and you should be fine. As long as the SES light isn't flashing, you can generally drive on it. I would also imagine you'd be hearing or feeling symptoms if the problem were bad enough to make it flash.

Seems like a lot of car for the money. Should make a nice driver! And it's sort of local!

Looks like a $500+ softball sized dent right there though. That may even be 8 or 900 to take out.

The light was steady and when I had Autozone scan the codes it came up with "Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)". The light cleared and has not shown back up yet. The car drives great and has almost new Parrelli tires. Everything seems to work, all the car needs is some TLC and one dent repaired. Hope to be here for a long time.

You should be able to find a colour matched panel for that dent. That being said, have you looked into getting it fixed? I had something even worse happen to that same fender and it was fixed using the same fender, as long as the metal is not creased you should be fine to get it fixed and repainted. Good luck with the ride. btw, here is what happened to mine. Before After

So how did the car work out? When I first read this thread I worried you had a poisoned catalytic.
