Hello all,
My nickname is Vegaman because I'm building a 350-V-8 Chevy powered Vega Station Wagon. I've been into those cars since 1986 and I can't wait to get this one going.
I also have a 1995 Olds Aurora with everything but the sunroof.
I love the luxury of this car and even with the pain in the butt electrical and mechanical problems this car has, along with the oil leaking northstar, I still think this thing has tons of potential.
My Aurora has 139,000 miles on it and it still runs just fine.
I've had the AC compressor, the radiator, water pump, rear seat belts, fuel pressure regulator, cruise controle release switch (on the brake pedal) and the fuel line recall all done on this car since I got it. I bought it 6 years ago when it had 43,000 miles on it.
I just know if I can get a good computer chip for this car that it would be very hard to beat on the highway.
I figure that if the car can get 20 mpg while going 108 mph with the AC on in cruise controle it can't be all that bad.
Sure, the thing weighs 4000+ pounds! I'm sure if I get in a wreck that I'll have a better chance than most that I'll be ok, but the cost of repairing it would soon outdistance the value of it now that it's over 10 years old.
Too bad GM dosen't put that engine in MORE CARS!
(I'd love to get it into my Vega. he he he)
I'm a car nut from way back.
I got hooked when my cousin gave me a ride in his 500 HP camaro one time, long, long ago. The feeling of being sucked back into the seat is something I'll never forget.
I compare every car to my 1966 Pontiac Catolina 4 door.
If your car can't go down the 1/4 mile under 15 seconds then it's NOT fast, in my book.
(I managed 14:45 with a 400cu. in. engine, 3 speed auto and a 2 BL carb.)
That car also got 21 MPG on the highway going 70 mph.
Too bad most cars (without turbos) don't even come close to that these days. (except maybe some Mustangs, Camaro's and Vets)
My Vega will pass those stats up in a blinding flash. LOL
Power to weight ratio is everything, folks, remember that.
I also am into riding motorcycles, but my Goldwing needs an engine rebuild now. (after only 230,000 miles)
I own 2 guns, so if you want trouble, come look me up..
(all us x-marines are a little crazy, you know.)
Hope to converse with you all in the near future and maybe we can meet up somewhere sometime.
(I live out here in the Wild Wild West of New Mexico)
(USA, for all you geographically challenged out there.) ;-)
later,
Vegaman
