Since I did my brakes I had the opportunity to weigh my 16" Seville SLS wheel/tire on my digital bathroom scale. Came to 43lbs with 30psi. Does anyone know what the Aurora wheel/tire combo weighs?

Hey Kobalt, mine weighs between 43.5-44 lbs. The scale couldn't make up its mind. I wonder how much variation there is in different tires with different construction? I think the 16" wheels are only 7" wide, while the 17" wheels are 7.5" wide. So it's weird they weigh so similar as they are both factory aluminum wheels. Though it could be that one is constructed with more precision methods resulting in little increase in weight.

or the aluminum that takes up the place of the tire is similar in what the rubber would take up on the 16" for some reason that felt like some deep thinking, heh.

Hey Kobalt, mine weighs between 43.5-44 lbs. Thanx Bob. I see I have zero gain from having 16s as opposed to 17s. This leaves me two reasonable choices when considering upgrades: 1. upgrade to 2nd Gen 17" with zero performance loss/loo/handling upgrade 2. upgrade to lighter 16" with performance gain/no ride change I wonder how much the Classic wheel/tire combo weighs...

Anyone know where you can get those nice chrome rims fixed? I have a slow leak in both my front rims, and when they were remounting the tire, you could see some corosion around the bead seal area. As GM Canada wants in excess of $400 per rim (and for $800 you can get some pretty nice aftermarket rims that will take the stock rubber) I'm looking for repairing or replacing them. Given that my Aurora is a baby (71,500 km on a 1996!) I'm looking to maintain it, and would like to keep it factory

Yes...yer in Toronto right?
On the Queensway in Etobicoke, east of Islington, one block west of Performance Improvements there is a shop on the north side of the Queensway that ships em out for resurfacing/refinishing.
It does cost some $$, but its cheaper then OE replacements.

Yes, I'm in Mississauga (Toronto suburbs)
Max Motorsport at Dixie & Dundas said try some place called Metal Werks up on North York on Toryork.
The alternative I guess is to see if you can put an inner tube into the rims so they won't be tubeless tires any more.

96 aurora, have you tried something as simple as bead sealant yet? Inexpensive and it does work. I would try that first before emptying my wallet

The tire store slopped a bunch of that black sealant goo on when they remounted the tires 9 months ago after looking for the leak. Problem went away for a while, but it has returned. I'm adding 15 to 20 psi every 3 weeks at best. Got so I got one of those little Canadian Tire $20 cigarette lighter powered air compressors so I can top it up anywhere.

'98 Classic Chrome 16x7.5: 45lbs
'98 Seville SLS Alloy 16x7.5: 43lbs
both wheels equipped with 235/60 tires

I just found out that my tires (Delta Esteem XLE) weigh in at a hefty 27.8lbs each. That makes the '98 Chrome rims about 17lbs.

The Classic alloy (satin finish) 16" wheels weigh between 23-24 pounds each. I've been shipping mine off recently as they are sold, and that's was the Post Office weighed them in at. Add in the weight of your specific tire (should be available at www.tires.com or www.tirerack.com) and there you have it!
