Has anyone ever deactivated an air bag? Could I just pull a fuse or something? Or do I have to take it into a dealer?
I am not asking about the bag in my car. The car in question is a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. I am wondering because the driver, my sister, sits very close to the steering wheel and if the bag, god forbid, EVER inflates for whatever reason.......will you get the idea. So, I am asking all the smart people here for your knowledge on how to deactivate the drivers side air bag in her car.

My opinion only - but I would think it would be safer with a bag than without - even if you sit too close. Isn't it illegal to deactivate them?

A 2000 GP should have 2nd Gen airbags, they can be deactivated on the passenger side. Driver side...I dunno

Yes, you should be able to have the dealer deactivate it. I imagine you'll have to sign some paperwork and such, and they may have to install some kind of notice in the car for future owners. However, short people are supposed to be able to have them deactivated rather than just hoping the airbag doesn't kill them.

Erw38....I looked at this procedure in the 2001 Aurora shop manual. It's probably more or less the same for that Gran Prix. You do remove the fuse for the air bag system. But there are a lot of electrical disconnections in the air bag system that have to be made after you pull the fuse. ____________________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!
