Quick quiz ya'll. Answer True or False.
The "T" in the 4T80-E acronym stands for "Transaxle".

The V6 STS has a 5L40-E and the V8 has the 5L50-E. The latter is probably a beefed up version of the 5L40-E and obviously, GM is changing the way they name tranny's. It could also be design to accomodate the new AWD system, seeing as it's not available in the V6 version. However the "L" means that the tranny is mounted from the front-to-rear of the vehicle in the powertrain setup, or longitudal.

Ok, so the new STS had the 5L50 tranny What does that stand for?? (I dunno.. and curious idiots like me need to know) The first "5" indicates 5 forward speeds, the "L" = longitudinal as mentioned, and the "50" is some capacity rating, though I'm not sure it's a directly comparable thing as the L80 and T80 have vastly different capacities. The "-E" was added when the trannies became electronically controlled instead of mechanically via the valve body.

Counter Quiz #2: The Aurora V8 has how many fewer moving parts than the Lexus 4.0L V8 of 1995? According to the 1995 Aurora sales pamphlet that I have in front of me right now, that figure is 556. In my next post, I'll put that page on here. ________________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!
