Okay, I'm scheduling a car evalutaion by my mechanic on my soon-to-be Aurora today. Not sure when I'm going to get the appointment for, what day, that is, but I'd like to hear some opinions on what I should have him check out specifically. It has that slight vibration up until about 30 mph, then it goes away, and that's all me and the owner know of that's wrong. it's got just under 120k miles on her, something lik 117-118k. What should I have my mechanic check for at this kind of mileage? Thanks ahead of time for the help, guys

Hopefully your mechanic will know what to check for. It needs to be taken for a road test, so a "professional" can make any observations about performance/handling that you might not have noticed. All the seals and gaskets (visible on the outside) should be checked for leaks. An OBD-II scan should be run to check for any stored codes. Even if you know the seller, run a Carfax report if you haven't already. That's about all I can think of at the moment!

I'll check my FSM tonight for maintenance required at 120K miles, granted the previous owner did what he was supposed to do at each milestone mark.

Well, my mechanic's pretty sharp, so I'm not too worried Ran a CarFax, she's clean. I'll make sure he checks for leaks. The OBD-II scan I'll have to ask about. And he takes them for a test drive anyway, so that's covered. Thanks again, man You too, Jim

Can your mechanic run a "new owners sanity check"?

Can your mechanic run a "new owners sanity check"? Good one Isnibs! However I am getting the impression that Kyle is aware of the fact that he is not reading the insert on his medication. And he is not at all ashamed of this fact. I, for one, have taken an instant like to the guy because of this. ;D

I'm willing to bet that the vibration is nothing that a wheel balancing won't cure.

Do you feel the vibration only when underway? Mine is very slight, almost unnoticable at idle. Look at the drivers door mirror while you go from Park/neutral into drive. Does the mirror shake, even slightly? Does it then go away in reverse? Tranny moumt is my problem. Someone here sent me to: www.worldparts.com/vandevereoldsmobile/ for parts. "The guy" Dal Slabaugh, is great! I called him but you should know that even though he works about 10-12 hours daily, he only answers the phone in the morning. I believe that he works out of his home office. When I called the dealership, they didn't know who he was but they finally got the GM on the phone and he knew who "the guy" was. Since when are we supposed to read those inserts that come with our meds, anyhow?

Thanks for the heads-up on a possible transmission mount problem. I'll have him check for that. Thanks again Jim, you find that FSM yet?

hey kyle...make sure your mechanic checks the fuel rails to see if this car has had the recall done...i assume you are aware the 95-97 Auroras were recalled several months ago because of a fuel rail issue that could cause a fire..if it hasnt had the stainless steel fuel rails installed (as opposed to the stock ones) you will have to get it done in order for the car to be safe...it wont cost you anything if you bring it to an Olds dealer but its an extra repair you'll have to make
