Friday. That's the day Tomorrow, I meet him up at my mechanics with the Aurora. If my mechanic gives the go ahead, and agrees that it is the one tire that's messed up and that's all, then assuming me and the owner can reach a deal for a fair amount to take off for a new set of tires (I'm gonna shoot for $200 to be taken off the price as it stands right now, which is $3200, being that I should probably get a pair and not just one new tire). Assuming all that, I'm bringing the money with me, and then she'll be MINE! ;D ;D ;D Still have to run around after that and get the insurance changed, then run up to the courthouse and change the registration over, then get both cars back home in time to head to class, but the important thing is that I'll finally have my baby Here's hoping all turns out as planned... $3000 for a '97 Aurora with a roof paint problem, dirty interior, screwed up tire and 118k miles? And nothing else wrong (I assume)? Sounds like a deal to me! I'm so excited!

i paid 4700 for a 95 that has a beautiful, never eaten in or smoked interior and has been garaged its whole life. not to mention a engine in pretty good shape, just needed some 3000 worth of repairs.
good luck with yours but i wouldnt be very happy with a scuffy interior or paint problem

Offer $2000! All the guy can do is say no or come with a counter offer. It's not as though you get to make an offer and if it's not accepted, you lose the car. I got my '98 this way: Saw the ad for $2500, it stated it had a problem. I went, looked it over, called a couple of people in the business while the guy was right there with me. Repeated quotes I was getting "$250 for tranny mount?" "Just for the part?". Keep in mind, the current owner already knows how expensive repairs can be. I then remembered that the guy had stated that it was being sold "as is". I was willing to pay the $2500, I should add. I told him that I would write in the Bill of Sale that car was bought and sold "as is" and would not pass safety or emissions testing (he liked that since "as is" alone isn't valid in Mass) then offered $1700. This was just to gauge his reaction. He asked if I could go $1800 and I countered with $1750. Sold. No matter how old or shy or whatever, once the words are out of your mouth the first time, it only gets easier. List all of the issues that the particular car has or if there aren't a lot, explain that you've done your homework. Tell him tires need to be replaced in pairs. Then proceed to list the items that will probably need to be fixed and how much $ others have spent on theirs. It would be very helpful if your mechanic knows these cars and is there to put his two cents worth in! He should be on your side, speak with him in advance if possible. Isn't the seller a friend of the family? USE THIS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE!!! Then make the offer. Include the words: CASH, RIGHT NOW! If the guy gets irritated at such a low ball offer, DON'T JUMP UP YOUR OFFER!!! Let him throw a number back at you. If he doesn't, ask him to counter offer. If you have the $3200 in your pocket the ball is in your court. If he refuse to budge, then you pay the $3200 if you want because YOU want. I can't tell you how many cars I've bought and sold and helped friends buy and sell. It isn't likely that he going to get so P/O'd that he refuse to sell the car at all to you. Good Luck and let us know! If I can be of any assistance ignore me! PS: If you really want throw money around, You can send me half of what you get off the $3000 you wanted to offer, if it'll make you feel better

Well, those are all very good ideas, except for two things: He's a family friend, and he isn't really actively trying to sell the car. He's pretty much selling it to me as a favor, as when I went to him asking if it was for sale, he wasn't even sure if he wanted to sell it yet! He likes the car alot, but they just have one too many cars as it stands right now. When I offered $3000, he said he'd rather keep it if that was my final offer. He said it nice, but firmly. He also said he would take no less than $3500 from anyone else; he knocked off $300 for me. And it's worth it; I checked KBB, it comes in at $3245 in Fair condition. You got a hell of a deal on that '98, hehe Not all of us can buy our cars from someone that desperate/stupid Oh yeah, and to clear up: The interior isn't rocked out; far to the contrary. The original owner was a smoker, but Al had a guy spray some kind of chemical in the interior a while back when he first got it, he says, and there's no smell that I can detect. And it just needs a good cleaning inside, nothing more. I'm probably over exaggerating it as it is, hehe The exterior will need more than a good wash, though (It does actually need a good wash, though) Scratches all over, and the roof is UV-ed out, with two big spots where the paint is peeling off. Actually, more flaking off than anything else. He says he was in Kentucky on a trip with the thing and a really weak tornado actually came over the car! Says it turned the car around about 180 degrees or something, then passed over. Said it scared the shiet outta him, lol So a few scratches, if it really did go through that (I trust him) are a small price to pay, hehe But that's it, as far as I can tell. We'll see what my mechanic says tomorrow. Thanks for all the feedback guys. You like me, you really like me

Oh, and Ted, you might want to remove your phone #. Send it to me PM if you want, but it's not a good idea to post it on a public forum. Ask Jim why, it's kind of technical, but trust me, it's a bad idea. But I really do appreciate the advice I thank you

A few days ago I emailed our illustrious leader, Amanda. I told her about a’98 Aurora w/85k that would be up for sale soon. The guy was to buy an Infiniti. I had made a deal with him that goes like this: He brings the Olds to the Infiniti dealer and makes his best deal for trade-in. I then go/call the dealer and get my best deal as a cash buyer, no loan, no trade. The difference between the two would be the actual trade in value. Then I get to buy the car at that price. I told Amanda so in case I couldn’t come up with the money or it was more than I wanted to spend, she might know of someone.
I saw a for sale sign in the back window of the car last Thursday. I called and spoke with his wife. She was happy I called as he had lost my #.That’s why the sign in the back window with no Ph#. He had gone into the hospital for some tests and would call me last Saturday or Sunday.
I went online last night to check the local Obits of the papers in my old neighborhood since its 30 miles south of the city and I can’t get them around here. There he was. 67 years old, went for tests, never left the hospital. To bad ‘cause he was a real nice guy. I had only spoken with him 3 times. Once, a year ago when I spotted him waxing the car. Then I stopped by a month ago as he was in the yard and just hollered out the window “when are you going to sell me your car?” He waved me over and we talked. Then about a week later I told him about an Aurora on EBay. That’s when he told me had decided on the Infiniti. Each time we met, we talked about cars, mostly Oldsmobile’s, for at least an hour each time. It’s too bad he passed. I’ll keep in touch with ACNA members when I found out about the car. I’m thinking someone in the family may want it. It’s beautiful, that same burgundy that stevensolds show’s. Is that the same color as the one on the top of this page currently?
Now Jim, Why are you selling yours? Do you have another in mind?
