I'm not getting it. As it turns out, he wasn't as big on keeping up his car, at least mechanically, as I thought. Here's the list I had the mechanic make me: Upper & Lower oil pan gaskets leaking Valve cover gaskets leaking Air shocks bad Wheel bearing bad, LF Transmission needs new fluid Different size tires on rear (He knew about this, it was a temporary thing) Needs tune up (plug wires, most likely plugs too, haven't been changed, he said) 1 plug wire was bad The oil leaks weren't bad altogether, though. A quart every 3000 miles, it seemed. Not too bad, but Al said with all the problems, he didn't feel good about selling it to me. So I'm not getting the Aurora. Time to use that money I had saved up for the Aurora to fix the Bonneville, I suppose It really isn't a bad car, it's just that, if it didn't have all those just-discovered problems, that Aurora would be better That Bonne has also been reliable as hell. For 5000 miles, all it needed in the way of mainenence was a flasher unit (a $5 item!) and oil changes. Not bad at all. Sorry guys, but it's back to the Bonneville club for me Well, one day, I'll have the '99 of my dreams Until then...

Did you check out the autoTrader? You can get some really good deals there.

Don't give up so quick. If you can't get this one there's others out there in better shape, so keep on lookin'. It's worth the effort, it really is.

dont give up bud. it took me to test drive 5 different auroras before i could get one in great enough shape. i was so happy to find a red one, as the other 4 i test drove were all silver and one even had a ugly blue interior.

Sorry to hear the car wasn't what you were looking for. But as many said, there are plenty more out there. Over 100,000 classic Auroras out there, so I'm sure one is in the shape you want.

Yeah Krazy, I never really felt too good about that car, but I didn't want to say anything as you where so high on it. And you didn't ask for a recommendation, so (very unusual for me) I kept my mouth shut. Now that it's done, good show for passing on that clunker! Even if you stay with an inferior Pontiac model, feel free to jump on over to this board from time to time. Your irreverent attitude is a breath of freash air (and you make me look tame by comparison, so it's good for my rep). Good luck with future ventures!

Well, I wish I could get an Aurora, but the only reason I was looking at that one was because I knew the owner really well. Fact is is that I can't afford the repair bills on them, and I can't afford to risk buying a dud. I would never recover financially. I assumed Al kept his cars in at least good mechanical condition; turns out he didn't. He didn't want me buying it with those problems, anyway. I think his son is going to buy it from him. I know him, he's cool too. I hope he likes her and treats her well He needs a work car. Heh, kind of funny, I guess Anyway, now I'm looking at Buick and other Olds offerings. There was a '97 Olds 88 LSS in the Auto Trader for 3900 obo, and what sounded like a nice '93 Park Avenue in there too, for only 3250 obo. That's ecellent to good KBB book; I checked. So the choice is either to buy a mediocre Aurora or a nice older (92 and up, I'm thinking) GM car, from the Pontiac, Buick, or Olds line, I'm thinking. Also, there aren't many Auroras around here, anyhow. Kind of like Bonnevilles and Michigan, only an inverse. Hehe, ask a BC club veteran member from there; they should fill you in on that little peculiarity, lol There are a LOT of Bonnes in Michigan, apparently. Call it a freak of nature or something. Hell, even MY Bonne was originally a Michigan car, before it was brought down here; no joke! Anyway, I'll try to stop by every once and a while and post a little something-something. I'll see you all around. it's been a fun few weeks Until we meet again...

Good choice, Kyle. You don't need the headaches that would have come stock with that Aurora. But like others said, don't give up all hope! There was a '97 Olds 88 LSS in the Auto Trader for 3900 obo, and what sounded like a nice '93 Park Avenue in there too, for only 3250 obo. Bleh. Don't settle! MUCH nicer Auroras and Bonnevilles are out there, undoubtedly within your price range. I'd say keep your Bonny up and runnin' for now, but also keep your eyes open and money in the bank.

Good advice, Scotty. I think I'm gonna do that. You know, keep an eye out for something nice 'Course, I was gonna offer him something way less, and that is about the car I need, but I think I'll survey the choices well before making a decision on any one. Thanks again for the advice
