I guess that's not a surprise. Also, Ford is selling Cosworth, who was supplying GM's IRL engines. Honda/Toyota spend ridiculous sums, the top teams get paid to use their engines as opposed to paying for them. The IRL will soon be where CART just got out of.

Teammates square off for Champ title

The battle for the Champ Car title has come down to the final race, Sunday's Telmex-Tecate Grand Prix in Mexico City.
Newman/Haas Racing teammates Sebastien Bourdais and Bruno Junqueira are separated by 22 points. So what would it take for Bourdais to clinch his first championship?
First, some numbers.
A race victory is worth 31 points and second place 27. From third through 10th, the points drop off two points per position. For 11th through 20th, the points fall off by one per position. A bonus point can be earned for winning the Friday or Saturday qualifying session. Additional bonus points can earned for leading a lap, running the fastest lap and making the biggest improvement from starting position.
So if Junqueira wins Sunday and maxes out with 35 points, Bourdais would need to finish ninth (13 points). That would give both drivers 348 points, but Bourdais would win the title because he would have more race victories (six to Junqueira's potential three).
A second-place finish in the standings would be the third in a row for Junqueira.
The Newman/Haas duo has dominated this Champ Car season. They have gone 1-2 in the past two races, with each driver scoring a victory. Junqueira has been hotter lately, with two wins and two seconds.
Throwing in the towel
General Motors announced this week that it will stop supplying Chevrolet engines to the Indy Racing League after next season, citing the IRL's falling television ratings and expensive competition from Honda and Toyota -- competition that has thoroughly whipped the General the past two seasons.
In 1997-2002, GM engines under the Aurora and Oldsmobile names were the predominant power plants used in the IRL. But the past two seasons, the Chevrolet engine has been thrashed by Honda and Toyota.
In 2003, Sam Hornish Jr. won three of the final five races with Chevy's Gen IV engine. But instead of carrying that momentum into 2004, Chevrolet was never in the hunt. Chevy engines did not win a race or a pole this season. Honda won 14 of 16 races, and Toyota won the two others.
