My driver's side fog lamp burned out sometime in the last few days, and instead of spending another $8.50 on a factory bulb I think I'd like to put that money toward a complete upgrade of my front lights. I want a white light to improve on the factory yellow output, but nothing that looks "ricer blue" (or any other color for that matter). Unfortunately Silverstars are way too expensive for my budget, and Cool Blues are on the high end for me as well. Anyone had luck with any other brands? dk58 recommends HiLites in a previous thread: Here is what i did: eBay. Silverstars are great. Trust me, I have them in my 85 IROC but they are too spendy. To replace low, high and fog you are looking at a ton of money. So I searched the endless "super white" bulbs on ebay and came across this HiLite brand. I got a combo pack that included: lows, highs & fogs for $40. They are well worth it. I am very happy with them and they are very similar to Silverstars. Here is where is bought mine: stores.ebay.com/CarShowGuys-Xenon-HID-Store_W0QQdptZ0QQsclZallQQtZkm Any other budget-conscious recommendations?

I dont remember the exact model number but instead of silverstar fogs I got a standard Sylvania 55W fog bulb that pluged right in. I can almost grow plants at night LOL ;D. It is also uncaped unlike the factory bulb. It matches my Silverstar lowbeams well.

blackbuty how much were the silverstar low beams for the 1995 aurora and are they a lot better? thx Not that you asked me, but they are about 40 bux for thed pair. They do help out. Well worth it if you drive on dark deserted streets. I have bad night vision so the street light kind of drown out my siverstars.

Yea.......what he said......lol. I actually bought the high beams and modified them into a lowmeam slot...........VERY bright, and lights up everything. Closest thing to HID without going HID, but still doesn't compare.

I read some where that the Gold Bulbs are good for driving during fog, since the yellow light produced cuts better than standard light in foggy weather, that's why you only see the yellow bulbs in fog light housings like in the Lexus IS300 and the GS300 among a few, I was thinking about doing that to my Aurora, but never got around to it.
Hope that answers your questions.

Also I don't know if you guys were aware that there was some type of recall on the Silverstar Fog Lights, because lots of people were complaining of early burn out of their Fog Light bulbs by Silverstar, Sylvania came out with a replacement for that type, I think they had changed that serial numbers to an X, to indicate the new replaced product.
Anyone remember hearing about that?

I had thought about that too, but I have e-mailed the original poster and he has had great luck with his... plus the seller/product has at least a 90-day warranty (which is more than can be said for Silverstars): "Guarantee / Warranty We offer a 90 day satisfaction guarantee. If these bulbs are defective in any way or burn out during this period, send back for a replacement. If you are not satisfied with this product, send back for a refund. Plain and simple. "

Hmm- I went to pick up a pair Silverstars for the foglights in my '01 when I realized that while the 1st gen calls for 893's- 37.5 watts / 990 lumens each, the 2nd gen uses 880's- 27 watts / 565 lumens each. So now, I have to wonder why the switch? The additional current draw works out to only 1.75 A for the pair so excessive current shouldn't the issue for the switch to the dimmer bulbs. Maybe too much light- it is a fog light after all- and or heat after the lamp housing was redesigned between the two generations? Thoughts?
