1989 Ford thunderbird SC - This was a great first car for only 2800. And i couldnt belive how fast the thing was. But had to sell it so i could go to purdue. But at least i sold it for 3000 after 2 years of driving!
1984 Volvo - This was my cheap college car, has been very reliable untill the timing belt snaped and all the valves went to *******. Only good thing about having a car like that is that i never worried about it.
1995 - Aurora Just got it and hope to have it for a long long time. I love it. Got it off a grad student for only $3300 with 80,000 miles.
Later - interesting thread

Welcome, Mitch. I remember my college roomate's first car was his dad's 1971 Plymouth Fury. I think it was a '71. It had a 318 V8 and an exhaust leak. Anyone know Route 2 in central Mass, it is a windy hilly road. On the ascent, the car sounded awesome, on the decent, lift off the throttle and the cabin would fill with exhaust fumes. The whole rear deck was speakers. It was so loud but sounded like poop. I swear you could fit four people across the bench seats. Of course it was green on green, with a green vinyl roof. Oh, and he had to be careful what he put in the trunk. With the rot behind the rear wheels stuff in the trunk would fall thru the holes, never to be seen again.

My first car was a '68 Mustang with a mighty 200 Cubic Inch straight six. It was a gutless wonder. Owned it in 1975. Had a '68 Caprice that the AC worked but the blower did not. V-8 that ran on 5. Had a '65 Bonneville Convertable. It was dinosaur grey, and quite large. Nice wood steering wheel. Had a '63 White Convertable Cadillac, but it ran really poor and had to be sold quickly. Had a '72 Malibu that the passenger door filled with water when it rained. Had an amazing Monza, maybe a '78... called the Spider. Built up V8, Fireball cam, Muncie Trans, Hurst shifter, Biltstein shocks, custom exhaust, incredibly fast but very easy to let it get away. V8 roar was louder than the corvair muffler equipped, side spitting, dual exhaust. Had an '84 Datsun 200SX, my first new car. 75,000 trouble free miles. Just change the soy sauce every 3000 miles. Had an '86 Toronado for about 5 weeks. It was in the shop for electronic problems most of the time. Traded it in for... Had an '87 Toronado. Another new car. This went 178,500. The engine and trans were OK, but all of the accessories were crapped out. Wanted a '95 Aurora but could not negotiate an acceptable deal. Bought a Buick Park Avenue and kept it for about 4 weeks. Too loose of a ride. Liked to change lanes in the wind on the open road. Traded it in for... Have a '95 Aurora. What an incredible car.
I think that covers most of them. Keith

Does this include my Hot Wheels and Tonkas??? No, you have to actually be able to get in it. So Soap Box Derby would count. I can't remember all of the cars. There were just so many. It started with a 1952 Chevy Deluxe with 32,000 miles on it. Other notables would be 1961 Lincoln Continental Convertible, 65 Goat, 1971 240Z, there were Cadillacs, Buicks, Hondas, VWs, Mazdas, Chevys, Fords, Olds, too numerous to mention. Oh yeah, and a rattle trap, gas hogging, repair ho, Aurora, which I liked best. Dan, why do you have to take the fun out of everything?

1) 1998 Nissan Maxima GXE
2) 1996 Mitsubishi Galant ES-Premium
3) ?
4) 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora 4.0
I know, I know, I don't even own the Aurora yet, but I'm currently slated to get it when I graduate (2 years). It'll be a nice law school car. The interim will be either an Oldsmobile Intrigue with the 3.5 or a late-90s Mitsubishi Diamante LS.

I currently drive the Galant (#2), and am looking for #3 to replace it. I don't know what it will be, but I'm looking at Intrigues, Maximas, and Diamantes currently. All are rare in my price range in good condition (people seem to like asking an extra thousand or two just because a car has leather, regardless of what Blue Book value is).

I do all my own mechanical work (hobbyist). I keep vehicles a long time and don’t care if they are new. I use only liability insurance. All were in very nice condition at purchase. Prices were pretty low when I was a pup. Also I usually own 3-4 vehicles at the same time and always sell at a large profit. My $500 Dodge Coronet has about $6000 in it and is a beautiful car that has won many show awards as well as races. And the Aurora, Well it's an Aurora !!

Ken, you can "quote" any post within a thread then comment on it and it will be the most recent post in the thread. Something like this... 1971 Olds Cutlass, new, 4-door, gold with white vinyl top, Rocket 350 engine. Kept it ~20 years. The interior hard vinyl trim began to disintegrate into a white powder by the time I got rid of it. A lot of fun. 1969 Olds Cutlass, used, 2-door. Ugly green color body with uglier dark vinyl top. I'm really over vinyl tops. Not really mine, but my wife brought it to the marriage. We traded it for the... 1975 white Chevy Nova, new. What was I thinking? Three of us in the family now. Traded it for the... 1982 Olds Cutlass Supreme diesel, new. What was I thinking? Four of us in the famly now. When the diesel broke, my mechanic replaced the engine with a Chevy 350 gasoline engine. Got rid of it too cheap rather than add the emissions control equipment that would have been required to register a gasoline powered car when I moved into the next state. 1987 Plymouth Grand Voyager stretch minivan, new - Five of us in the family now. I'm very, very family man at this point. This car spent more time in the shop than any three other cars that I have owned. Fixed it up enough so that it would run and donated it to one of the used car charities at ~100k miles. I have never forgiven Chrysler for building a car that they couldn't fix. If not for their 7-year, 70000-mile warranty, I would have spent more on the repairs than the initial purchase price (pretty good warranty, though). 1989 Olds Cutlass Ciera, used - low mileage, with the 3800 V6. Really ran great when I donated it to one of the used car charities at ~100k miles when I got the 2001 Aurora. A good solid car that served us well. 1991 Ford Taurus, new, third driver added to the family. Eventually gave it to my oldest daughter. 1993 Ford Taurus, new. Rather than replace the AC I donated it to one of the used car charities at ~100k miles when I got the 2003 Aurora. FIFTEEN YEAR UPDATE!!:1997 Mercury Sable, used dealer loaner - fourth driver added to the family. I still have this car, my college son is driving it, 115,000 miles. No longer have this car. Can't remember how I disposed of it.1999 Mercury Sable, another used dealer loaner - about this time, and for a short time, I had five drivers, and five cars, in my family including two teenagers. I still have this car, my college daughter is driving it, 90,000 miles. No longer have this car. Can't remember how I disposed of it.2001 Olds Aurora, new, silver V6, the first car in 30 years that I bought just for me. My wife is driving it now, 89,000 miles. 200,000+ miles. My daily driver, again. But, my 36 yo son is driving it while he's sheltering in place with us.2003 Olds Aurora, dark cherry metallic V8, new, 38,000 miles, my daily driver. 115,000 miles. Final 500 Garage Queen, only driven on weekendsNext?? - - My wife wants an economical, fuel efficient car for her next, maybe in 2007. And soon, both of my children will graduate from college. All three kids out of college now, and on their own. So, I guess in the next two years I'll get rid of the two Sables, get her a car, and I'll be left to wash and wax the two Auroras. Does it get any better than that? Yes, it does get better. Just wait a second. 2007 Subaru Outback, new. My wife loved it. (Well, as much as a non-car person can love a car, meaning she didn't hate it.) Private sale to my mechanic in 2017 at ~200,000 miles. Much less maintenance required than any of the Auroras.
1999 Light Antelope Metallic Aurora, used. Found it at a Ford dealership in 2009 with 60,000 miles. Now at 95,000 miles. My "retirement cruiser", named Andromeda, or "the ship that lived." So it does get better - now I have three Auroras to wash and wax!
2017 Subaru Outback, new. For my wife. That's right, ten years later we bought another Subaru because the first on was so blooming good. We have only ever bought two "foreign cars" in our lives, and they're both Subarus.
Next??? Well, I've promised my wife I'll get rid of the Auroras when we reach 80 years old. Time then to have all the possible safety features, imo. So I get to take my turn* for a few more years, hopefully.
