Dang, that's got to suck, as far as I know you can reach the headlight underneath the car, remove the black air dam and you have to unscrew the headlight from there so it can be removed.
Let us know how it turns out.

Something similiar happened to me. To get the bulb that was rolling around in the headligh I managed to get one of those extendable things (kind of like a telescoping pole) that has a magnetic tip. The bulb has a thin strip of metal on it and if you can grap that piece with the pole thingy, you can drag it out very slowly.
Good Luck.

In case you still need some help, here are the instructions from a GM Technical Service Bulletin:

Date: June, 1997
SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE
Subject: Section 8B - Lighting Systems and Horns - Revised Headlamp Replacement Procedure

This bulletin is being issued to revise the headlamp removal and installation procedure in Section 8B of the Service Manual.
The procedure should be as follows:
Remove or Disconnect
1. Front bumper fascia from the front fender. Refer to "Bumpers" in the Service Manual. 2. Reposition the front bumper fascia to gain access to the headlamp retainers. 3. Apply masking tape to forward edge of fender and fascia to prevent damaging headlamp lens or fascia upon removal and installation. 4. Four bolts retaining headlamp to vehicle. 5. Headlamp, by lowering inboard edge of headlamp and lifting outboard edge of headlamp to disengage locator pin from fender. 6. Electrical connectors. 7. Park lamp socket by squeezing tang and turning counter-clockwise. 8. Headlamp bulbs by turning counter-clockwise.
Install or Connect
1. Headlamp bulbs by turning clockwise. 2. Park lamp socket by turning clockwise until tang on socket engages with retainer on headlamp. 3. Electrical connectors. 4. Headlamp to vehicle. Be sure that locator pin on headlamp is seated properly to fender. 5. Bolts to retain headlamp.
Tighten
Tighten Bolts to 9.5 N.m (84 lb in.).
6. Masking tape from fender. Remove tape residue as necessary. 7. Front bumper fascia to the front fender. Refer to "Bumpers" in the Service Manual. 8. If new headlamp has been installed, remove the horizontal aim adjuster restrictor from headlamp and discard. 9. Check headlamp aim. Refer to "Headlamp Aiming" in the Service Manual.
Good Luck!

To remove the HD assembly u have to remove one bolt from inside the fender , which can be reached from loosing off the splash sheild and reaching in , it is only one bolt . That's a whole lot better than the "Instructions" to remove it. Does the "One Bolt" apply to both sides?

heh, heh, heh... I thought you guys would get a kick out of that The scary thing is... that's the REAL bulletin and the REAL instructions! Sounds like a lot to go through for a friggin' headlight, but it's definitely thorough and fool-proof. Seriously though, I hope everything worked out OK clksaurora. -Shawn
