I have a 03 Final 500, #167, and have always noticed that the "auto" settings on the climate control made the fan always seem to run one or two speeds faster than it should. The fan, or I should say the sound of the air coming out of the vents, seems noisier than it should be since the interior is very quiet from the road noise. This is especially irritating in the summer as the AC always seems to run on "hurricane" speed even after the interior has cooled down and the thermostat is set on a higher temp. I usually then set a manual fan speed. The dealer says this is normal and there is nothing wrong with the system.
Is this the norm on the 2nd generation Aurora?

This is the norm on both of mine. If you notice, on auto, the recycle fan comes on which is why the speed is so high. When you manually adjust the fan speed, it takes it off of recycle (or recirculate, I forget which term is correct). I always hit the recycle button to take it off high and I am convinced the heat is better with it off.

I couldn't be happier with the climate control on my Classic. So happy that I almost never touch the manual controls, only up/down the temp from the wheel controls. It even goes into automatic window defrost mode (ac on, high fan, windshield vents) when I push the rear window defrost button, this being an area that most auto climate controls fail at.
I assume the climate control would be an automatic update item for the 2nd Gen platform, not a successful one from what you're saying?

I wish you could set a maximum, but I guess "auto" means it'll do it's thing fast. Hurricane speed is a good description. Mine slows back down after a short bit, though.
I always turn off recirc and a/c when in "auto" mode. It's my understanding that having the buttons lit up in "auto" just means the car can decide to use them or not, doesn't mean the a/c and recirculate are always on. I do like that you can configure that and still have auto climate control. On a lot of cars it's all auto or all manual, no in-between. But I can have auto temp control but prevent it from using the compressor if I want.

Interesting, I didn't realize that. I always manually disengage the "A/C" button also, because I thought that meant the compressor would be running continuously. Is that spelled out in our manuals anywhere?

In my 96 hand book (page 3-5) it states the A/C compressor will not operate at temps below 44f or 7c even though it is enabled (turned on).

In mine, 2001, the manual said 34ºF. The dealer said the compressor lasts forever anyway.. and mine is brand new thanks to a rod going through it.. but still, why hurt the gas mileage and whatnot? It's VERY annoying that the a/c always turns on. My old 1996 '88 did that, too, so it was already instict to hit the A/C button when the climate control starts going

That "hurricane" setting is a lifesaver!!! I have found that on days of 100*+, the interior of my 2001 will be cooled in less than about 3 minutes when the fan is at the 8th speed setting. ________________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

Gotta agree here too. The A/C system in these cars is awesome! ;D

In my classic I always turn my fan down to the 3rd notch after it's cooled off. I find it gets to cold otherwise with. 3rd is nice and cool yet not overwhelming

A lot is just personal taste in Climate Control. I really would prefer my 70 degree setting to blow 35 degree air on a 90 degree day! Freeze me out in the Summer please!

I like the speed with which my car cools down (normally within 5 minutes.) I just wish I could have more control over the direction of the vents. They don't hit me in the face like I would like for them to do when I climb in after being in 110 degrees plus in the Phoenix sunshine. ...Is there a mod for the vents???

i am as pleased with my full auto climate control as letitroll is. i used to use manual mode but with this car there is no need. set a temperature and leave it. never touch those controls again. in the afternoons, the fan goes to max speed and drops down in just minutes. in the morning it hardly comes on at all. it's so perfect. the only thing i'm missing in my classic that you guys with the second gen have is the rain sensor. it's something i thought cars should have for a long time.
