I'm wanting to disable the daytime driving lights. Leaving only the parking lights and fogs on, basically I want to disable the highbeams during the daylight. Any suggestions? The search function resulted in nothing for me on the later models. HALP?

For 2G, simply detach pin #87 from the DRL relay.

Can't you disable the 2G DRLs using the DIC? Or am I horribly mistaken?

Horribly mistaken. You may be thinking of something along the lines of "Headlamps Suggested".

...For 2G, simply detach pin #87 from the DRL relay.
Tried it, result is no DRL, but on high beams only one works. ?? I put the relay back on, everything back to normal.

You have to disable the DRL relay, if it cannot pick up, then it leaves it in the normal headlight only mode. When it is off, the LH H.L. is connected to ground, when the DRL relay picks up it moves the connection to +12v and puts both lamps in series or DRL mode. You should be able to do it by removing the coil pins, either 85 or 86 I believe. you need the other normally closed contact pins left in to ground the LH lamp. If you simply pull the DRL relay, you will get no LH Low beam at all. Max.

It's time to modify a relay. ;D I did this at my previous job, should not be complicated. Can't tell when I'll do it, but i will document everything. Thanks for the info!

I want to disable my Daytime Running Lights on my 2002 Aurora. Where is the Daytime Running light relay and what pin do I remove to do it?
If this is the wrong way to do it or if there is an easier way, please let me know. Thank you for your replies.

Where is the Daytime Runnings Lights Relay on a 2002 Aurora? Which pin do you remove to get them to not come on? Of if there is a better way, I would appreciate learning that also.

Underhood relays; The DRL relay(The small black one) And the pin numbers (standard relay setup) So, for an easy no DRL relay, cutting the pin no. 85 or 86 should do it. You will have to buy a new one to get the DRL back. [glow=red,2,300]If you want absolute confirmation, wait for my experiments. [/glow](Monday or tuesday may 17-18 ) ;D

weird in my aurora I could disable the DRL high beams in the DIC of mine Do you have a reference that shows where this can be done? I have searched the DIC Personalization instructions in the handbook and the shop manuals, and can't find any ref to this? I have both a 2001 US and Canadian model. Max.

I would be very surprised to see that ability on a Canadian model, as DRL's were mandatory on all vehicles imported into Canada after 1990. In fact you cannot insure or register an imported vehicle until it passes the DRL test. I will try it however on both US and the Canadian version to see if it comes up. Max.

1995 actually is when it was manditory, it will pass the DRL test with no issues remb my side markers will still come on just not the highbeam lights they didnt come on when I played with the buttons in the DIC and that passes safety and DRL test

The DRL relay brings the low beams on in series, When I brought the US model across the border I had to demonstrate (Govt. Inspection) that the DRL or low beams came on, albeit in daylight, and in gear, they don't come on in park. I had an initial issue with the R.H. low beam not working in DRL mode due to an open connection, so no low beam DRL's, I had to fix it before they would pass it. I am not sure of the legal ramification in Canada if you disable them purposely? Max.

it really depends on your province, were do you live? I am in new brunswick and our inspections yearly dont make you have to have the DRL work but all lights must work therfor thats how it works for us over here, who knows maybe the previous owner before me did some sort of wireing change for all I really know I just know that me playing with them in the DIC made them disabled when I put the car in any other gear then park as you mentioned they are turned on but for inspections its really just all your lights have to be working including license plate bulbs

Sometimes I would switch them off for signaling a truck in front of me, for example. Flashing the hi-b. can be understood as "what the heck you're doing" vs switching off means "OK go for it" And running light-less sometimes is handy.

The RIV, Registrar of Imported Vehicles is a Federal agency. It runs under the Canada Border Services. When you bring the vehicle in, you have to go to any local RIV inspection location for confirmation that the DRL's are operational as per the manufactures spec, as well as other safety regulations, safety belts etc. You also have to obtain for RIV, a letter from the manuf. declaring that no recall applies to the vehicle. Once you have an approved RIV inspection form, you can have the vehicle safetied for provincial requirements. Only then can you register and insure it, the RIV must be OK'd within a certain time limit or you have to export the vehicle back. The mention of the Hi-beam flash, I was very used to that driving in Europe it has been in use there for around 50yrs, and has become a defined sign language for passing etc, mainly for courtesy. Max.

Actually that what I was talking about also, the Canadian requirements for DRL!!. The same applies to an auto built here or imported. I would still like to see the DIC ability to turn it off, I have had not success on either vehicle so far. Max.

Thank you for the location of the relay. I found it. I just need a confirmation that is is pin 87 Right?

According to the manual schematic 85 and 86 are the relay coil pins, removing either of these will prevent the DRL relay from picking up, if you cut 87 you will get DRL's but no RH low beam when switched to 'Low beam'. Max.

Thanks Maxheadroom. I just got my 02 and really like it until I come to a stoplight behind someone and realize my headlights are on during the day! Mine I dark blue with brown guts. Is the one on the left in your picture blue also?
On another note: Where is the best place to find a paper service manual for an 02?

I got my service manuals from a member here that had them for sale. Maybe ebay is a possibility. Mine are Black w/charcoal int and and Diamond White with Tan int. Personally with this DRL issue I would rather keep them for safety reasons. Max.

My opinion only: The idea for DRL was to stand out in traffic, now that everyone have them, nobody stand out in traffic and the accident rate havn't change much. Just like the 3rd brake light. I like to go against the crowd, if everybody has got them, then I don't want it. I'm an amateur anarchist!

I removed the relay and bent the #85 and #86 prongs back and replaced the relay, doublechecked all light operation such as low and high beams, driving lights and parking lights. Everything worked just like the good old days. Thank you so much for all your help. Now I can rest.
I sure like my 02 Aurora. Is there a parts wanted board on here?
