Black96Aurora and Scotty, mine didn't line up either. I just widened the holes with a dremel. B96A, you have the stud and nut type, so if you want, you can just add some thick washers to bring the height of bar up some (what I did). Scotty, I would just copy what Dan did, but add some thin washers to help spread the force over a wider area as there will be less metal left on the bar after you drill some of it out. Dan, I want to know to OAman's question too, this pic should help out what the square patch he is talking about...

Okay, got the bar on. Had to widen the holes. Used the spacers that were on the car to lift the bar enough.
PROBLEM: The hood now has a gap on the sides because it's hitting the bar. It closes no problem but it's bending over the bar. Not good. Don't want it to mess up the paint. I was thinking of cutting out the insulation which is directly over the bar. This may help lessen the problem. What did you do Shroom?

I think i'll get one of these for my 98 also, are there any precautionary measures to be taken when removing the 2 bolts from the strut tower to install? I don't want to unbolt anything that's under any tension or anything like that.

No problem with tension. Unbolt away.

This is a 2nd gen isn't it? i think so. no it isn't. The 2nd gen has a passthrough that goes from the trunk to the cabin, and it's black plastic back there. (not carpetted.) Actually nothing resembles the 2nd gen trunk. actually, that looks like the trunk in a Cadillac?

I was thinking of cutting out the insulation which is directly over the bar. This may help lessen the problem. What did you do Shroom? Mine fit fine spaced up. It did leave a dent mark in the insulation were the bar was, but the hood closed fine. Since I painted mine, the first time I drove it after I installed it, the paint heated up and stuck to the insulation and when I popped the hood, it torn off some insulation. Mine JUST rests on the brake reservoir. Letitroll orignially had to bend his up some, and then back down a hair because it was displacing his hood a bit. That's probably going to be your best bet.

I wonder if I can move the brake booster down at all? My bar rests right (millimeters) above the brake resevoir. I think this is close to where it's touching the hood. I'll mess with it tonight and see what I can do. It deffinitly feels better to drive.

I played with it for 1/2 hour or maybe a bit more with maybe on and off 2 or 3 times.

just ordered one for me. i'm really excited about this. You're gonna love it! It really makes the car drive nice!!!!! I've cut the insulation under the hood where the bar was resting. It gave me a good 1/4" back from the hood not matching. It's still not perfect but it will do for now. I'm wondering if I could bend the bar in the area right to the side of the brake booster to help. I was thinking about it...these things would really be easy to make if someone knows how to weld. Measure it up making room for the brake booster and hood clearance. Start welding and selling on here. (I'd do it if I had a welder and could do a good job!)

Alright, I just got mine installed (haven't driven anywhere yet... it's pouring rain). I bent the ends of the bar a bit, but it still rests *just* on top of the brake fluid reservoir. However I can still wiggle the reservoir back and forth with my hand, so does that mean the downward pressure is not too excessive? I don't want to keep messing with the bar if I don't have to (the hood is closing perfectly at the moment), but I don't want to risk busting the reservoir open either! Thoughts?

Neither should move while driving, so you're more then good to go!

Sweeeeet. I will go for a test drive soon, and report back if my observations are any different than everyone else's thus far.

So I installed it today. Took me like 10 min. - bending time included. It rests on the brake reservoir just like Scotty said. I can wiggle it with my hand so it's good. The hood closes up just perfect. I drove it to work and then back home and I must say that I like it. The car does feel stiffer. I wouldn't say that the steering is tighter, but somebody might say it is. I'm having some problems with my steering right now(could be the wheel bearing) so I didn't enjoy the feeling that much. However, I can feel the difference and I feel good having it on. Hey, what more can you ask for for $30?

I just read this whooole damn thread, and everything sounds just like the install of the 92-99 Bonneville STB on my old 89 Bonneville.
Since GMPD doesn't ship to Canada. I'll just take that number to my local dealer and get the part ordered. Any ACNA member in CAN will have to take that route.
I believe this will be one of my first spring time mods once she comes out of temporary retirement.

Good idea, I just need to find someone with a work bench and a vice so that I can bend the bar as per instructions STB with super wide 255 tires..oh ya!

so scotty, get a chance to drive your Aurora since putting this brace on so other classic owners know what to expect?

so scotty, get a chance to drive your Aurora since putting this brace on so other classic owners know what to expect? Yeah I have, and I think I agree with the consensus... it feels real good. Pretty tight around turns, although not a HUGE difference or major increase in handling. But for less than $35 and 10-15 minutes for installation and fit, I'd definitely call it a worthwhile mod.

Will this work on a 2001 2nd Gen Aurora?

Yes, you need the STB from the Bonneville GXP. Custom88 has it on his 2001 and it works just fine.
