what does the power mode do when turned on ? raises rev limiter when WOT by like 200-300rpms, so you shift @ higher rpms.

OK, I have hear a lot about the autobahn option. What I have not seen is where to "get" the option. Does a GM dealer have the A/O? Where do I get one? Does the A/O come as a package or do you have to purchase the parts individually? What DOES it cost?

It consists of lower final gear and no rev limiter. You could swap out the tranny for a 3.71 autobahn tranny but you would also have to swap out the PCM to an autobahn PCM. YOU CAN NOT SWAP PCM'S WITHOUT THE 3.71 TRANNY. The PCM will try to figure out why the car isnt at a lower cruising RPM and mess things up. by chance are you from youtube? I know I was talking to a guy on there about the autobahn package....

You dont need to change the tranny, only the differential. I believe that can be done separate, actually IRRC it can be done without tranny removal.
as for PCM, if its a 95 you need to change the PROM not the PCM...

the autobahn was an option from the factory and is not available as an add on. Talk to aurorabrain, he's done it. On 2 classic Auroras I think. But no, there's no bolt-on kit that will give you the Autobahn pacakge... and as much as we use the term for braggin' rights around here, it's really not THAT big of an upgrade. Put a layperson or even many Aurora drivers in two different Auroras (one w/ Autobahn and one without) and I doubt they could tell the difference in normal everyday driving.

what i still don't get is how the 3:71 supposedly gets better mpg when it's running at a higher rpm for the same speed.

The 3.71 idles the engine down more at cruising speed. Or atleast this had always been my assumption.

The ratio refers to the number of revolutions the engine turns(depending on the gear you're in) for one revolution of the drive wheel. The engine will turn a higher rpm for a 3.71 than the 3.48 at a given speed. All things being the same, an Autobahn should not get as good of mpg as a non-autobahn, although it isn't a major difference, maybe 1 or 2 mpg highway. My Aurora runs right at 60mph at 2000rpm with the 3.71, where the Intrigue and Grand Am run about 72 mph at 2000rpm due to the lower final drive ratio, and possible difference in OD gear ratio. Personally, for what I use my car for, travel mostly, I'd rather have the lower ratio and higher mpg.

Can other autobahn owners confirm the 60mph @ 2k rpm in OD? I have an non-autobahn, according to sticker on driver door, but my rpm @ 60mph is 2k. I don't know the history, just trying to verify if i have the autobahn or non-autobahn tranny.

dens95, I went 60 on my lunch hour just for you, through a neighborhood...just kidding! I was at approx 1900 @ 60. From previous experience, 90 @ 2800 and 100 @ 3200. Never have pushed the 110 cutoff for my non-Bahn.

Thanks roara! So I have a non-autobahn, my rpm is in line with yours all the way to 100mph.
Oldwino, you sure you have an autobahn?

I believe all the 2gen with the 4.0L have the 4t80e with the 3.71 final ratio, same ratio as the classic autobahn. Non autobahn's are 3.48.
Someone can correct me, if I'm wrong.

Any other A and/or Non-A owners?
60mph@2000rpm 90mph@2800rpm 100mph@3200rpm
rpm is approximate since there's a variance when you're on or off the pedal. Sorry for being such a dweeb....

dens95, another way to check is the option/build sheet? (might have the wrong term here) under your spare tire cover. QQX means Autobahn yes.

I couldn't find the option build sheet in trunk spare tire cover, but i did look at the driver door sticker again and it did say V on the speed rating. So according to some member, this would make my car an autobahn. Is this information verified? Really confused now!
Not too many places where i can go over 110 mph, can't afford the ticket and legal problems that comes with that.

So unless someone has replaced the tranny and PCM with a non bahn than you have autobahn. Dont go by the RPM ranges or your speed, seing as that is rarely acurate.

V speed rating for tires on door sticker = autobahn yes.
Now what about our matching rpms/mph between the Bahn and the non-Bahn? I was definately under 2000 at 60 mph, estimating 1900. That is a 5% difference. There is approx a 6% difference in the final drive ratios so...non-Bahns should get 5-6% better mpg with equal driving!

I'm definitely, @2k on the rpm doing 60mph. So if that's the 5% and there's a bit of a variance. So its inline with wino.

my 99 doesn't have the v rated tires on the inside of the door but it will 120+ that i witnessed maybe a fluke thing but i have done it twice

i think the only clear way you can tell is if you get up to 130+ then you will know i used tyo think i had a nonbahn then one night i floored it with a friend and hit 130 then dropped off.

I don't know what to tell you there, bowtie. Its possible that someone replaced the door but I doubt it. I see it this way: 1) Someone replaced the door (or the sticker) with one from a non-autobahn. 2) Someone removed your speed limiter (highly unlikely)
It must be a fluke, or maybe you were mistaken? I'm not saying you're a liar, just trying to find an explanation. ;D
I feel confident saying that going 130+ isn't the only way to tell, aurora4. Autobahns have V-rated tires from the factory. Non Autobahns have S-rated tires from the factory. If it says you have V-rated tires on the inside of the driver's door then its an Autobahn.

The ONLY for sure why is to find your VIN matched RPO code decal, and find QQX and FV4 on there.
For sure on 95's the RPO decal is not on the spare tire cover, but on the inside of the trunk, on the right fender behind the liner. Sort of where the 12-disc would be. If you have the 12-disc you'll have to remove it to get to it. Bit of a pain. Not sure if 96's have it there as well. But the RPO code sheet is indeed the only definite way.
With these cars aging, a door replacement is possible, and for the speed limiter not working, I believe it. How many times has traction control not worked? Many of times before my wheel upgrade I remember punching it the rain, only to find myself deep into 2nd gear, going no where.

So a V rated tire on the inside door panel would indicate an Autobahn package on a '99? Yes it would.

For the amount of money, time, and effort, you could buy an autobahn Classic for the same price.
