Did this deal x2 the other day at my local Auto Zone, one filter for the Aurora and one for the RV. It's a really great price, considering the regular price of M1 Extended Performance is $7.98/quart and the filter was priced at $11.98. That's $51.88 of product for $29.99! Plus by buying oil + filter I qualified for an "oil change special" and got $2 off an air filter. Picked up a filter for my Pontiac for $2.98. ;D
Thanks again oldsmobiletw for the notification on this sale!

Autozone is having another special: 5 qts. of Mobil 1 & a Bosch filter for $29.99 or 5 qts. of Mobil 1 Extended performance & a Bosch filter for $34.99.
For $5 more they'll throw in a drain pan, funnel, roll of blue shop towels and a bottle of Fast Orange hand cleaner.
Wal-Mart has the 5 qt. jugs of Mobil 1 on sale for $22 as well.

Wal-Mart has the 5 qt. jugs of Mobil 1 on sale for $22 as well. Looks at these containers carefully when you buy them, because they come in 4-quart jugs also. Kinds stinks when you think you're buying 5 and only get 4, then have to go back later and spend another $5.99 on a single quart to make up the difference. Kinda reduces the sale price potential there. Not that I know from experience.

Works out good because my car only takes 4 so I have one left over for the Aurora.

AWESOME - I didn't even realize that promo was going on currently. Stock up now. With the M1 filter, that's darn near half price for everything, compared to regular prices.
3000-3500 is an old standard from engines long since gone. Both car mechanics and oils have advanced considerably, but of course the industry is not going to admit that since more frequent oil changes means more $$ to buy the oil and provide the service.
The oil life monitor on your Aurora's DIC is the best indicator of when oil needs to be changed. It measures a whole bunch of factors related to how your car is actually driven (vs. a "blanket recommendation" like xxxx miles) and counts down accordingly. Most of our Auroras would probably go 6000-7000 miles before the DIC recommends a change, and that's with conventional oil. However the car won't know that you've switched to synthetic, so you can safely add some time/miles. It depends on the oil too. Some are rated for certain miles, like Mobil1 Extended Performance (note that's different from standard Mobil1) at 15,000 miles or 1 year.
I switched from conventional to synthetic after buying my Aurora. I think the first time through, I followed the DIC and got 6000-7000 miles or so. The next time I probably went to 10,000 miles. After that if I remember right, I switched to Extended Performance and have gone around 12,000 each time before changing.

Thanks Scotty, that is what I needed to hear. If I understand you correctly even tho the DIC tells you to change the oil you go ahead and add more miles on the synthetic? The guy said he was a mechanic and still said just because it says extended only go 3K to 3500 because even synth oil gets dirty and other icky stuff collects in it (he didn't say icky ;D), I thought that sounded odd but I don't want to hurt the engine.
Yep seems like a good deal especially considering how much oil these engines drink between fill ups (8 qts w/ new filter).

My first post, great site. Just go back from advance and the sale is also for the Extended Life Oil. A great deal!!! That usually sells for $7.98 @ quart. Some of the Advanced Auto stores are not honoring the sale with EP Mobil 1, just Mobile 1. Just saying cause I got home from the first store and it wasn't EP (I didn't look cause that is what I asked for and thought that was what I got. Then the clerk told me the sale did not apply to the EP. If you got the EP for the sale it is indeed a good deal. Something else I found out, the prices are not the same between stores. The same filter had a price difference of $1.10. I also see the sale code is a bit different so the EP cost .22 more/qt which is still very good price. Just an FYI.

I've always just walked to the counter with my M1-EP and put it down... they always gave me the discount price. If you ask specifically I can see how they might have a problem with it, or might bother to look twice and know what they're selling you for beans. That said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with standard Mobil1. I just like the Extended Performance because it IS specifically rated for the longer interval. Here's the new link on the current sale through 9/30/09.

Was in my local Walmart last night and they had the 5 quart jugs of Mobil 1 for $20 and the EP for $22. Probably a little better deal with the filter included for the $30.

Good to know regardless, it's all about getting the best deal! I know Walmart pricing and inventory is regional, so it all depends on your particular area.

Got my 5 quarts of M1-EP and a filter for the Pacifica yesterday... $29.99! ;D When I was standing in Advance Auto, the promo signs were kinda scattered around the shelving where the various kinds of Mobil1 were displayed. The EP did not have a sign and showed regular price. An employee was standing nearby, so I asked "is the $29.99 promo for all the Mobil 1's or just certain kinds?" He said he thought it was for everything except Extended Performance and High Mileage. As it turns out, another employee was nearby overhearing this conversation and interjected, "no the promo is good for everything!" 1st employee says "oh ok, I guess it's good for everything" and he moved the signs around to cover all the display areas. Moral of the story: not every employee at these places will know whether they can/cannot give you the promo price. The more people you ask (think: stopping in on different shifts, different days), the better chance you'll find someone who knows and will give you the better product at the best price. Don't settle for less!
